| I had that happen a few times, esp when washing Uni's Cloud 9. It tends to soak up a lot of water and sits to one side and then gets the washer unbalanced. Now I wash at least two pet beds at once and it doesn't happen. Oh wait. You said front loaders. Mine are top loaders. nevermind.

| YT 1000 Club Member | I had a mismatched washer and dryer set for a very long time (like 15 years) and one day the washer quit working completely. Like no power was getting to it at all anymore right in the middle of a load. The dryer was on it's last leg. We went and looked at washers and I had always wanted a front loader and a lovely blue Samsung set was on sale that week. Well, we got both and for the first time in my life I had a matched set! As far as odor, I had researched a lot and so I never close the washer door unless it is running. I don't leave clothes sitting in the drum wet, I get them in the dryer as quickly as possible. I have had my set exactly 4 years, as we bought them about the last week of April. I love them! The only problem I have had is my kids would slam the washer door shut, which really should be closed gently and they they broke the latch, but we ordered a new part and my husband put it in and we instructed the kids that the next one who slammed the door would be buying the new part and no problems. They broke the latch about 15 months after we got it and we have not had any problems since then with either one. I am 5 foot 2, so reaching into the bottom of a traditional washer is a challenge for me, I love the front loaders and they don't bother my back because I am already short. I hope you enjoy whatever you decided to get. I love my front loaders and would very much love to get another one if I need a new set, but hopefully I am good for another 10 years or more.

| Mine is scheduled to be delivered May 5th....I am so excited, I can hardly stand it!!! I got the top loader washer....it is stunning and the matching dryer is also!!! There are so many options on this machine and dryer, I am looking closely to see if "Gentle Cycle for Yorkies" is included!!! It wouldnt surprise me!! I LOVE that beautiful blue you got yours in...the colors are gorgeous on these new machines! I got wild and crazy and got the graphite color....I would LOVE to be able to pull my old machines out of my laundry room several days before they deliver the new ones, and clean the floor well and even paint the walls a subtle light dove grey with "stainless steel" colored mini blinds in the window..... |

| fwiw I don't like front loaders. Why?? I know how they run.I know every setting. I know to keep the door open to dry to keep the smell away. I know to keep them clean. I know what soap to use. If it breaks I can fix it. Why I don't like them. They don't clean dirty clothes. Top loader is better. If I only wore regular street close then it would be fine But still to small to clean a comforter. JME |

| I love my LG front loading washing machine. I have never had an odor but I clean it every 3 months or so and leave the door ajar when not in use. I try and clean the filter every month. I got the one with the steam option. I have not had any problems since it was purchased. I replaced a whirlpool duet with it. The whirlpool died as soon as the Warrenty was over and it would have cost way too much to repair. So good luck I know I love mine and hope you will love yours as much. I have put 2 cloud 9 beds in at the same time and it handles and cleans the great! Last edited by jacquelinebabco; 05-02-2015 at 04:54 AM. |

| Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | This "odor thing" w/ front loaders has me so curious.....I mean, why would front loaders cause an odor and not top loaders? I wonder why....? Wouldn't they both just drain out their water in mostly the same way?

"If you have a front-load, HE washer, this scenario is far more common than you might realize. While the technology in HE washers is wonderful (they use much less water than traditional top loaders and their spin cycle is truly mind-blowingly awesome), over time humid conditions can lead to mold in two zones: the gasket (that rubber seal on the inside of the door), and the drum. The Causes of HE Washer Mold Let’s start with the gasket, which is the most common culprit when it comes to washer mold. The reason is simple: the gasket doesn’t get much of a rinse. During a typical wash cycle, only a small amount of water is splashed past the seal, and over time, detergent and gunk accumulate in the folds as the water evaporates. Combine that with the fact that humidity stays trapped in the folds and you’ve got a recipe for the stinky stuff. If you notice a strong moldy odor when you open the door to the washer, pull back the rubber gasket examine the folds for black mold. The second area mold residue forms is the inside of the drum. The main cause here is humidity combined with residue from laundry detergents and fabric softeners that cling to the inside of the washer." | |

| I don't know about brand, but we had a an issue last year. We ordered a side by side W/D set, and somehow it did not fit! It seems that many manufacturers are not making the machines in the standard 27 to 28" widths, but are exceeding that. We were amazed at how many machines would not fit into what used to be a standard sized space. I ended up with Whirlpool Cabrio machines because they fit and I was determined not to start reconstruction in a room that did not need it. I do like the machines. THe washer top loads, is HP and gets the clothes clean! |

| There moisture in the lid even if you don't see it. If you keep the washer open for awhile it will dry. Its when you always close it the moisture stays. My wife wipe the lid and leave it open = no problem. But Like I said many times they don't clean as well as top loaders for dirty cloths. Simple truth. |

| It's also the top load HE. Mine is the LG top load and the odor problem can occur too. I use Tide Washing Machine cleaner and leave the lid open so no problems. I think it might be any of the HE washers. Not sure.

The simple solution is to leave the washer door open, so that air gets in and dries it out. You dont have to leave the door wide open. My laundry is stacked in a closet I built, and I can only leave the washer door just cracked open, otherwise size constraints it wouldnt allow the closet door to close. Cracked open is enough to keep the gasket dry & smell-free. Because my laundry area is literally right outside my bedroom door, in my tiny one storey home, I do an odd load of laundry many times throughout the week. If i had a set day where i did all my washing, i would just wipe the gasket out with a dry absorbent towel.
