I wondered if you'd post on this thread, and I actually had a feeling you might say your husband, I don't know why. Six years, my gosh! It doesn't seem like that long, for some reason. I lost my Mom now 25 yrs ago when I was 21, but some days it still can feel so recent. I'm sure your dear hubby is watching over you .

I'd like to think I would but I'm not 100% sure....

WEll I am pretty sure I wouldn't, I was pretty headstrong in my teens early twenties.


And the one thing Im sure about now is if I had listened I sure would not have had the life I have now.....

probably my paternal grandfather, my mom always spoke about him like he was larger than life. He was a NYC police detective in the 1920's and beyond, Gangsters, prohibition, flappers and all that fun stuff...... He even played pro baseball before she was born.

I have the same feeling about my great, great grandfather. He was a ship captain and the first of dad's family to come to the US from the Netherlands. We have his photos and letters.

I would tell myself that the things that I thought were sooo important are not. Don't think my younger self would listen.

I'm so sorry, Sandy. I can only imagine how much that hurts. Your message really touched my heart. I understand what it's like to lose someone you love with all your heart. This day every year is painful for me, because it's the day I lost my mother thirty nine years ago. I was only 19 and she was only 46, but we were unusually close. Love, when deeply felt, leaves a lasting impact that no amount of time can ever alter.

There are actually 2 people that I would give anything to meet. First, I would like to meet my birth father. The adoption is more like a Lifetime MiniSeries and there are so many questions that are a mystery since he is no longer here. The second person would be my birth mom when she was in her very early 20's. She is still alive but now has dementia and is unable to tell me the stories that her and my father kept secret from everyone. Most of the things that I do know have come from conversations with her several years ago and those memories have since slipped away. They were secrets that she shared with no one but was able to share with me one very lucid afternoon when I went to visit her in the nursing home.

Interesting that you thought I'd say my DH, as I couldn't even talk about it at the time he passed. Feb. 10th is always a reminder, so when this thread popped up it was my first response. Didn't mean to make anyone sad though.

Ann, I am so sorry you lost your Mom so young. My heart goes out to you... that is really hard to take.
