The Interview--Sony cancels movie premier

I agree that it is not in good taste and yes I don't suppose that we would take too well to another country jesting about murdering our president. As for sony it is definitely a damned if you do damned if you don't kind of decision. And as for my family, taking six kids to Annie next to a movie eliciting bomb threats (and that horrible dark knight scene replays in my head) yeah, it ain't gonna happen, we just aren't going to go in a situation like that. It's one thing not to live your life in fear and it is another thing to walk into a situation that you are aware of having higher risks and potentially deadly consequences- especially for the sake a rogan/Franco comedy. I mean Annie honey - we can wait for the matinee.

UMM I think you need to get the country correct. That would be NORTH KOREA. There is not a darn thing wrong with South Korea.

A small, backwater country that has nuclear weapons and is arguably just a proxy for China. That is North Korea. The lights are on in South Korea, our ally.

In 2006, a British "mockumentary" (not comedy) depicted a fictional assassination of President Bush, who was still in the White House.

I think the writers of The Interview should have made up a fictional country and dictator rather than using Kim.

I don't think this is a political "thing" at all. What I do think is that Sony is afraid all their dirty little secrets will be on blast if they release the movie. It's not the American public they are looking out for they are in CYA mode. We already got a small taste of the emails that were hacked when the Angelia Jolie emails were released. North Korea and that nut bag Kim Jong-in is behind the hacking they will be dealt with. Personally, I think it should start with a great big giant middle finger from Sony but I doubt they will change their minds about the release of the movie.

First off. It's a comedy. Not to be taken seriously. Second, it's freedom of speech and art. Our govt cannot tell us what we can and cannot make art about. That is what is so great about this country. It is not the govt's fault this happened. It's not Sony's fault either. The difference is if there was a comedy made about Obama's head getting blown off, most Americans, Obama supporters or not, would know it's a comedy and not threaten people with death if it were shown.

What about when Team America came out? That also poked fun at North Korea. I just think they didn't have the technology to threaten the US at that point. Seems like they are just looking for any excuse to start a war. If this movie had been a fictional character, I think they would still be behaving the same way. Just looking for an excuse to fight.

I was thinking it was a comedy. Our gov't may not be able to tell us what we can and cannot make art about, but other countries obviously have a say in the matter, and using fear to dictate that to us. I feel a little less "free" over it and I didn't know anything about it before all this happened.

I forgot about Team America. That one poked fun at just about every world leader, didn't it? It was full of violence, but did it include the assassination of any heads of state?

Whether comedy or not, I think it is in poor taste to depict the assassination of public figures. For me, it is not a matter of free speech.

"THEY" have us by the short hairs in this situation. They choose to show the movie, some nut goes in there and bombs the theater, OMG!! the lawsuits would abound, with every person or cooperation or business withing a country mile being sued. If they dont show the movie, they are all running scared and empowering the terrorists. If they dont show the movie, the USA is being commandeered by some rogue maniac dictator on what we are allowed to see and hear in our country! We already have tolerated the Mexican president access to the White House and the floor to attempt to influence decisions made in our country about issues we must deal with....WTF?????????? We dont need foreign dictators telling the USA how we are going to be allowed by the rest of the world, to conduct business in our democracy!!!
