Ebola or Hysteria Paranoia? Yikes, an hr away from where we are...not confirmed ebola, hope not. Video, click on link to watch. UPDATED: Ebola Scare at San Diego College Prompts Lockdown - Around Town | Temecula, California Patch San Diego County health officials are en route to Southwestern College in Chula Vista, where officials say a “student whose family member reported flu-like symptoms and was hospitalized.” A section of the campus has been cordoned off. The school’s newspaper, The Sun, reports that the student may have come into contact with someone who was on the same flight as a nurse who traveled by air the day before she was hospitalized for Ebola. “This student told their teacher that they had a fever and that they were exposed to the Ebola virus because they were on that same plane,” she said.NBC San Diego reports that at least one building has been shut down, and posted the below video from the scene. Southwestern College posted this message on Facebook Thursday morning: A precaution has been taken regarding a student whose family member reported flu-like symptoms and was hospitalized. The Campus Police have cordoned off the 470 area. The County Department of Health has been called and is in transit to assess the situation. |
I think as always the truth is rarely at either end of the spectrum. How-ever I do hope that Nurse loses her job. She knew she was exposed and went on a bloody plane? Shame on her as a health care professional. She did know better and went anyway. And while I am sorry she did contract Ebola she had no right in hell of exposing other folks. Even in Canada the Health Minister is coming out with new guidelines / regs covering Ebola. Something has these folks pretty scared IMO. The problem is it could get away from us so very fast. Flu like symptoms, running a fever etc etc are so very common and folks go to work sick. |
It's some really scary stuff that can get out of control...& it has. The what if's...praying it gets contained. |
I just feel its not being handled right and at the expense of exsposing alot of people to this. There should be a travel ban. Its time the public safety is the number one concern. I know this wouldnt have mattered with the nurse who exposed so many people and I think something needs to be done so that doesnt happen again. I wonder how many nurses and doctors are going to continue to care for ebola patients when nurses are getting it even though they have full protective gear. Im concerned about air travel and the situation our country is in right now with this ebola. I hope it doesnt become an epidemic here but with no travel ban in place I can see how it could happen. I think the CDC director should resign but its probably gonna have to take a few more people to die before he does |
I don't know what to believe at this point the cdc has lied a few times and they are only interested in covering there butts. |
There is no problem at the college. I live in San diego and the student didn't even know if her sister was on THE flight with the nurse. People panicked. I heard the the second nurse called the CDC twice about flying and she was told it was ok since her temp was not 100.4. This is the CDC's fault. I think the CDC doesn't know what the heck they are doing. I feel sorry for the ERs and the staff everywhere as they really don't know what to do to protect themselves and other patients. |
dog Nurses should make responsible decisions regardless of what they are told. That nurse should not have gotten on an airplane knowing she had fever. This ebola outbreak is another sign of the times. People better get on their knees and pray because this could get way out of control and people go crazy reacting. Sin is running rampant in this country so I am not surprised another serious problem is occurring. I just hope and pray the right people in charge will do their job and train nurses and staff to deal with this properly. My daughter is a hospital nurse in san diego and you better believe I will fight this battle with some powerful prayers! We never lose heart no matter how bad the scene gets! |
Local TV just told us that the college scare was a hoax. SHAME on the girl. Waste of time and money. |
I live in Ohio and I have to say I'm not very happy with the nurse who decided it was okay to get on a plane and fly to this state (or anywhere) knowing she had a fever or the CDC who told her it was okay to do so! What is wrong with these people?! |
I don't think the CDC is telling us everything we need to know. It is scary anyway you look at it. I think there does need to be bans implemented. The nurse should not have got on the plane regardless of what the CDC said. She knew she had been exposed. Period. No excuses, she knew better IMO. I hope the US wakes up and realizes what is really at stake here. It is no longer oh well it is in Africa. It is HERE. You won't get me on a plane right now. My mom works at Walmart and said people are starting to wear face masks in the store. Can't say that I blame them. May even get me one! I pray this gets contained and we don't lose many people over this. |

Transmission | Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever | CDC The CDC isn't doing an adequate job of containing this or educating the public. While the organism is not believed to become airborne, the miniscule spray from a sneeze or cough can contain the organism. The effing CDC stated sneezing isn't a symptom of ebola.... That's messed up since dust, allergies and just the right angle of the sun in the eyes can bring about a sneeze. |
Well a women who traveled from Africa got sick in the Pentagon parking lot! They are thinking ebola. |

100s of more examples, here's just one: Video reveals sneezes can travel far further than we thought | Daily Mail Online All I'm saying really is, find out the truth as best you can and protect yourself accordingly because the CDC, our government, is not. We were doing ok until Duncan lied while exiting Liberia. It was only a matter of time really, but he was the one that put the rest of us at a greater risk. |
I am absolutely flabbergasted with all those nurses, lab techs that ALSO came in direct contact with blood samples from the infected ebola patient, now it seems all these people are now "celebrating" their time off work while they are being "monitored", by clinbing on any mode of travel they can find (planes, busses, cruise ships, etyc!!!!!!!) and scurring off to enjoy their time off!!! OMG!!! What was that irresponsible "medical professional" that decided to go on a cruise, thinking!!!!!!! And it now seems that nurse that jetted off to Ohio to plan her wedding, was feeling sick BEFORE she ever left Texas!!!!! OMG!!!! Now, they are trying to get that lab "manager" off that cruise ship.....I am stunned.......they are trying to find all the people that nurse came in contact with at that bridal salon....the patient "cant remember what time frame she was at the bridal salon" because "she was feeling too sick, she cant remember"......GREAT, LADY!!! THANK YOU!!! Of course, with DR NANCY SCHNEIDERMAN believing all those containment and isolation rules do not apply to HER, she can load up and go get food because "SHE is a medical doctor and SHE knows she isn't sick".....WTF??????????!!!!!!! This is all just unbelievable to me....if someone that knows they are AIDS/HIV positive, and they set about to infect as many people as they possibly can by ignoring their high risk behavior, they can be charged with premeditated something or another....my point is, that behavior is against the law!!! So all these people that are supposed to be self isolating themselves and monitoring themselves for contamination/infection, are out vacationing and planning weddings and going on cruises, and mixing and interacting with unsuspecting, innocent people, they too should face some kind of consequences for their irresponsible, unacceptable, costly behavior. Thank goodness our governor has stepped up and said this type of behavior will not be acceptable and when people are on monitoring for the 21 days that they may be infectious, they can NOT vacation and travel all around the country, possibly contaminating everyone else. If they DO decide that this would be such a special time for them to get out and play with everyone, they will be placed into guarded quarantine to make sure they do not travel and vacation and socialize extensively. He has also listed extensive changes that will be made in this State with regard to how and where and when people that have the disease or are suspected of having the disease, or are on the 21 day monitoring for the disease, is handled. Thank God he is working from a position of crisis avoidance rather than crisis management, which is the typical federal government solution...."let them all come, and then after they get here, if they get sick, we will deal with it....". OMG!!!!! |

We are taught in nursing school to think for yourself. If you KNOW something is wrong....a doctors dosing instructions, a doctors assessment, ANYTHING that as a licensed, educated, trained professional YOU know is wrong, you do NOT follow those instructions. She is a nurse...she KNEW what her circumstances were, she KNEW better....as usual, people want to pass the buck...."not MY fault, they said I could go"....WRONG! She should not only loose her job, she should have her license suspended for a period of time! She is TRAINED to make independent medical decisions as they relate to what she knows and has been trained in. She was an ICU nurse! She has NO excuse for what she did! As nurses we all KNOW, if you do something, following a doctors orders, and the patient dies or is injured and it goes to court, YOU as a nurse are not protected by, "well, the doctor told me to do it, I was just follwoing orders"....she is a trained, educated, THINKING nurse....she has NO excuse for what she did! They said this am she was feeling sick before she ever left Texas to go do this wedding trip thing....and she cant remember the time frame she was at the bridal salon because "she felt so sick she cant remember".....OMG!!!! |

Using a tissue doesnt stop some of the fluids from a sneeze from maybe getting on your hand and then you touching something infected it with ebola since ebola can be present on innate objects too. Is the tissue going to be put in a contamination waste recepticle. Plus Im not totally certain this may not already be airborne they are saying it could mutate and become so. It doesnt make sense to me these nurses were in total protective gear and still got it |
And explane how in the world Duncan's relatives lived in that filthy, contaminated apartment, with bloody vomit and diarrhea all through that apartment, on bedding, in the carpet, etc....and NONE of them have gotten it!!! But the nurses taking care of him, with PPE covering them head to toe, with all the chemicals they wash their hands with as they leave the ante room where they remove all the PPE, THEY come down with it!!! There is so much we do not know about this.....this is scary...... |
Judi do you know if that Ebola can be killed what-ever through good hand sanitation practices? I suppose I could try to look that up but... I do know here they have developed new treatment what-ever protocols, but as I have been out of the traditional health care field for about 10yrs I don't get the latest communiques. I think the thing is to not panic, but to be especially carefull if you can. And for sure I am not flying anywhere soon. I carry hand sanitizer with me, just out of habit, and I never touch washroom handles etc with my bare hands. I wash before and after classes, and before and after restaurant eating etc. I also don't touch my face with my hands unless of course I am washing my face. lol We are going down to Md in November so I am more than a little interested..... It is said to be a large show with folks from all over. Any advice for me? My dogs are going with me. Now my usual practice is to wipe out their crates with vinegar and water spray at days end, and before they re-enter their crates in the morning. I also have those dis-infecting wipes that I use on their paws. No food is left out at the show grounds period. Their water is never left un-attended and we never use indoor potty areas. My showgal will probably have a full bath at least once, and nightly I do the head and beard. For other reasons we lock our crate doors, if we both have to be away from their crates. How-ever I do usually let folks pet her (after the show), and I am sure the judges are going to be making extensive use of their hand sanitizers, but nevertheless I will ask my handler to show the bite (if the judge will allow it). I am concerned with transfer of virus to dogs? Or am I just going overboard here? It is going to be a very busy weekend, as Dara is entered into CGC, and various other events, and health clinics, as well as the regular and National shows. Anyhow mayhap I worry too much......... |

Some are questioning if 21 days is enough, based on limited research, only very old studies, and CDC lying and guessing along the way. It is discussed here: https://www.yahoo.com/health/should-...180989317.html |
Did you hear the woman that was at the pentagon lied when she said she traveled to africa. I think people that pull these stunts should be charged with something thats the only thing thats going to stop people from doing it. |

I am not believing hardly anything anyone says to me. I have posted a little information below, from "International SOS" , as well as information garnered from WHO, CDC (HA!), etc. I have contacted DuPont regarding the effectiveness of Virkon on ebola virus....will post that when I hear from them. I know ( ??...as best as anyone can know that does not manufacture a specific chemical themselves!!!) that chlorine kills the virus....I use a chlorine spray in my kennel on a weekly basis, spraying everything down, crates, walls floors, etc to protect against all the diseases we know can affect dogs....parvo distemper, etc, along with daily cleanings with Virkon. I am not sure the concentration of the chlorine spray I use, is the same as what they are spraying everyone down with before they remove PPE when they come out of the wards caring for the dying ebola patients. When I hear from both of these companies that make these sprays, I will post what I am told. After reading the article pasted below, I think I will purchase some form of a hand sanitizer to use in public.... Someone had asked about cotton gloves as protection....NO, wont work! Cotton will simply absorb the infecting material.... There are some Latex gloves that do not keep certain bacteria/viruses from permeating the gloves....you have to be sure the latex gloves you are using are approved for specific protection in isolation carts and contact situations. "According to "International SOS"..... Is the virus killed by commercial hand sanitisers? The US CDC advises that waterless alcohol-based hand rub can be used if soap is not available*. The World Health Organization also advises travellers to use hand sanitizer (but to wash if hands are visibly dirty). Ebola is killed by a range of disinfectant agents including sodium hypochlorite, lipid solvents, phenolic disinfectants, peracetic acid, methyl alcohol, ether, sodium deoxycholate, 2% glutaraldehyde, 0.25% Triton X-100, β-propiolactone, 3% acetic acid (pH 2.5), formaldehyde and paraformaldehyde, and detergents such as sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS). Companies may wish to compare the ingredients of commercial cleaning preparations available to them against this list of known effective agents. *CDC Interim Guidance about Ebola Virus Infection A Research Fellow at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, Dr Kofi Bonney, has cautioned the public to be wary of the types of hand sanitizers they buy from the market as part of precautionary measures to prevent an outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus. According to him, hand sanitizers come in two forms; one meant to kill only bacteria and another meant to kill all forms of germs including bacteria, viruses, fungi and protozoa. Following the outbreak of the Ebola virus in West Africa, there has been a marked upsurge in the use of hand sanitizers for disinfecting the hands for fear of people coming into contact with the virus. However, at a sensitization forum on Ebola organised by the Graphic Communications Group Limited, Dr Bonney noted that there was a need for the public to carefully read the labels of the sanitizers before buying them. “Take your time to read what the sanitizers can do. Read the instructions and what they contain because the sanitizer meant for bacteria can only kill bacteria,” he advised. Checks at the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) have shown that only 11 hand sanitizers on the market are recognised by the authority. The brands of hand sanitizers that had valid registration with the FDA as of beginning of August 2014 were Sanigel, Clean Touch, Dial Hand, Samocid, Forever Hand, Steri-7, Carex, Fruiser, Purell, Bremed and High Baby.
