He did the right thing....he helped his "sister", his neighbor that was dying....he was kind hearted and generous and oh so noble.....but he committed HIS life to helping that unfortunate woman, not any other living soul on the face of this earth. But I didnt sign up for that, and neither did my family, my kids, all the little kids in schools that may be contaminated because his family now has to be on guarded lockdown because THEY dont like not being able to go outside and want to send the kids to school, and did so, against strict instructions NOT to leave the apartment. He should have stayed where he was, just because he KNEW what he had exposed himself to, and he lied to authorities about not having been around any sick ebola patients. I am sorry but his humanitarian allegience to his neighbor does not give him the right to possibly condem another single living soul to death by this disease. Look at the horrific, expanding mess this has created for innocent, unsuspecting humans that do not deserve this.

Pslam 137:9 speaks of smashing babies heads against rocks. But okay. Today's world is bad lol.

Anyway this is horrible and scary to think about! I think back to that movie with Dustin Hoffman and Kevin Spacey... Outbreak. Sooo scary!

I hope this thing can be contained.

I hope none of his close contacts contract Ebola and die, especially his own little son.

I'll be praying for this man's life, his family's safety and for the health of anyone else that has come into close contact with him once he was symptomatic and contagious. But if it turns out he knew or should have known, he should be prosecuted for putting others at such dire risk.

If you honestly believe the total different stories on each channel that is so riddled with hysteria causing propaganda and tabloid reporting than I have no ground to gain with my points anyway.... What I do find amazing is that people here who drop to their knees, quote scripture for the love of a pup and its owner are now tossing the bible to the wind, seizing the one tidbit of truth that NO ONE KNOWS for certain is truth and casting blame upon the man because lets face it - it only stands to reason that he purposefully helped someone, knowingly and willingly got infected, knowingly and willingly with malice aforethought got on a plane and came to the US to infect everyone he could....I honestly think we should go back 10,000 years, plant a large stake in the middle of town, tie him to it and said it ablaze....because hey everything we hear must be fact, he not only caused himself to get Ebola but he also put everyone else he loved at risk as all of us....this is no different then the Aids hysteria that caused so many people to literally be cast out of society....ah well, have at it and make sure when you go to church Sunday you talk to your preacher about casting the devil out of this man, surely he is evil...

As I understand it, he was not contagious and was asymptotic on the plane rides that he took from Liberia to Brussels and then into the US . According to the CDC Ebola is not transmitted until you actually become sick. That is why before boarding the plane in Liberia the country is taking the temperatures of everyone leaving the country. He became contagious after being in TX for a few days and like I said previously it was his family that he exposed. I really do believe that he got on that plane hoping that he wouldn't get sick but knowing that if he did once in the US he would be treated and most likely cured. By no means do I believe that his actions are acceptable. Hopefully they have not caused the virus to spread any further than himself. When he went to the hospital the first time if he was an honorable man he should have confessed what he KNEW and insisted on being treated and quarantined. Just saying "hey BTW my BIL just came from Liberia" obviously was not enough of a clue for the ER staff to take immediate actions. He should have never stepped foot out of that ER when he KNEW that he was having the fever and other symptoms associated with Ebola.

Another thought is that he possibly does not speak English well and I know that he has a relative with him for the first trip to the ER. Maybe something was lost in translation?

In the OR where surgeons hardly ever wear more than their personal glasses if they know someone has AIDS (especially) which is a blood borne virus EVERYONE in the room including the surgeon is on high alert. EVERYONE double gloves, wears full eye protection, extra cautious with sharps, the cleaning staff uses extra precaution when cleaning the OR after surgery etc. You do not play around with a blood borne virus and that would include Ebola. So on that thought, I disagree regarding disinfecting the ambulance properly with a quick wipe down with a couple Cavicide wipes would be an adequate cleaning of this ambulance. Believe me if they would have know sooner that there was an Ebola patient in their ambulance there is no way wiping a railing down with a little Cavicide would have been consider disinfected. The virus can live on hard surfaces for up to 6 hours. How would you tell where his bodily fluids splashed about inside the ambulance? It would be impossible so that is the core reason that a quick wipe down is not appropriate in this situation.

Aww Lynz, I think people are just expressing how irresponsible/careless they feel this man was in his actions. And, in comparison, if you were irresponsible/careless with AIDS you could become infected as well. I'm not ready to accept this disease is as difficult to catch as they are saying. And, I feel for the owners of that apartment complex. This will surely have a negative impact on their business. Irresponsible on his part in the way he conducted himself, at least, he shares responsibility for causing some of this hysteria.

These men and women of Emergency Medical Services and Paramedic services are highly trained and aware that they must handle, transport and disinfect after patients as if their own lives depend on their protective measures being 100% effective, as most of them have families with small children, wives, parents, not to mention a community, depending on them. Those who attain the position of Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic are all highly-motivated, dedicated and purpose driven people who take on responsibility naturally. All I've met are extremely cognizant of the high risk they take with each patient, seeing each one as a potential bio-hazard even if the patient presents with a leg fracture or chest pain/SOB.

There are no rampant disease outbreaks among EMT's/Paramedics or their transported patients - and they face highly infectious and contagious pathogens and bio-hazards in and around the ambulance and their other life-saving equipment - daily, so I think we can rest assured they take every precaution with after-patient care, wipe downs with powerful solutions, steaming, power washes, drapings/sheeting and equipment, including ambulance, exchanges, etc. They know their lives and that of their own families and their community depend on how thorough and efficient they are at their jobs.

The only reason this disease has become an epidemic in Western Africa is lack of quarantine of highly contagious patients, contact follow-up/monitoring or even the most basic of protective, containment, waste disposal and disinfectant measures, not to mention personally patting, hugging, cleaning/re-dressing and carrying dead Ebola patients during the community grieving and burial rituals. Until America and other countries stepped up widespread community education and put proper medical and social protocols in place and provided the materials, sites and administrative processes to do it, there was basically nothing to stop the disease. Now, with more and more countries stepping up to help, the disease will be eventually be contained.

He could have prevented all of this by simply waiting the 21 days to see if he did indeed get enough exposure to get the virus himself. But no, he decided to take the course of action he did. There is NO honor in what he did from that moment forward. This is exactly why this disease is rampant across Africa because people have no concern for what the consequences could be if they walk around all over the country, infected with the disease. Hopefully, he has not spread that disease anyplace else in Europe or in Texas. His SECOND opportunity to be honorable was just as calliously disregarded when he kept his mouth shut and walked out of that emergency room, at which point in time he WAS contageous. Oh I totally agree with you. I'm sitting here watching CNN and they have a hazmat team at the apartment and have all tge famlies belonging loaded into a semi in the parking lot inside steel drums. There was also a car wrapped in plastic and hazmat tape. They haven't decided what to do with all this stuff. The CDC isn't messibg around that's for sure as they shouldn't So much for wiping an ambulance down..... Just saying

Couldn't agree with you more.

If the story of his close, unprotected contact with an Ebola patient is correct, I think what this man did in getting on that airplane constitutes depraved indifference and should carry some legal liability, as should any future similar situations. And there will be more coming. Anyone with the price of a ticket and travel clearances will be forming lines to get here as quickly as they can, following Duncan's example. And the very poor - those who don't have family to send them money to escape - they'll just have to stay in the midst of that disease hell and either they make it or they don't. Only those with money get out, as usual.

And for goodness sake, ACLU, why don't you have your Dallas office limo them to your home office to bed down if their freedoms are so trampled and you don't feel holding them in their very own home is proper. Or fund them an isolated house that the CDC has approved and pay for 24/7 security. For goodness sake - they are in their own home and the sick man is long out of there. Quarantine for those who possibly came into close contact with a sick Ebola patient's bodily fluids is imperative as you don't want them getting symptomatic and contagious while out and about and suddenly coughing up bloody mucus or vomiting in the aisle of a movie theater, school, mall or grocery store.

Wonderful idea!!! Shut us down from every direction, close the open borders, at least until this disease is stopped in its tracks! Wonder where the journalist that they are bringing back to the USA this weekend that is now sick with ebola (a poor cameraman that oh by the way, was covered head to foot in a hazmat isolation suit, filming all the dying patients, wondering HOW in the world HE contacted the disease through "contact with ??? bodily fluids ???....makes you wonder if direct contact with bodily fluids is REALLY the only way to catch this...)....wondering where HE will be hospitalized. At least he isnt running amuck all over Europe and the USA! At least he is diagnosed and being properly contained and managed. As far as the open border issue, we are all still at grave risk there too, and we continue to fight that issue.....at least the feds are quietly, under cover of darkness and without advance notice (because NO ONE ELSE wants these people shipped to THEIR state and busses are met with protesters and turned around, and governors are telling the feds DO NOT bring them here, they will be turned back!), shipping hundreds of these illegals all over the country to all states, even though we in Texas at last count still have to house and assimilate thousands more than any other state, into our economy. Of course, with an uncle that has a ranch in Del Rio, where he watches illegal aliens crossing his ranch every day and night, and finds dead bodies on his property on a weekly basis, watching Mexican drug cartels spilling across the border into Texas, killing innocent people in tiny, indescreet border cities....maybe we see this in a whole different light than people that are 1200+ miles from the situation and really are not experiencing first hand, what is going on down here. It is and continues to be, a crisis and not a joke about "Mexican kids hysteria"..
