Now my dream home if I won the lottery, would be to have several modest houses all over the place! One in the West, one in south FL of course ;), maybe one in the Caribbean.... :D |

4 Attachment(s) Your kitchen looks great, Ann! I am loving this thread. Reminds me that I need to update my blog... We have been doing so much around our house. We have a 102 year old Craftsman bungalow and we are working on the original woodwork right now. We have awesome box beam ceilings and they were painted and textured by the previous owner (the horror!!). We have stripped them down and are staining them a dark walnut color. Pictures in order: Before, purplish paint with texture During, partially stripped During, scraping the ceiling and stripped woodwork After (before poly), stained woodwork |
Omg I love beamed ceilings! Why would anyone paint over them?! |

I ordered a hand made Farm Table for a local craftsman called Fore The Love of Wood. I am so excited, the wait is 7 weeks but that gives me plenty of time to obsess over what I want as far as paint and stain. Here is his Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Fore-...39467106074533 |

The pipe bookshelves is something I've had pinned for awhile. Finally starting to think about my work room, so I think I will put some of those in. Ann, you made the dog bed with the pipes. Did you use a circular saw or what to cut the pipes down? We don't have one so I don't want to spend the money on an expensive saw. But maybe we will get some more use out of it in the future? |

I love the pipe fitting shelves, I want them so badly too...but just can't see to get to taking it on yet (nor do I know where I'd do it). For the dog bed, we luckily found pieces that were ready-made for the right size, so we didn't have to cut them. I *think*, though, that many hardware stores will cut them to the right size for you...? So if you could draw up your plans and cuts ahead of time, you may be able to have them pre-cut.. I asked my husband about using a circular saw or rip saw, and he said you'd need a special blade for cutting through this kind of pipe, and he too said the hardware store will often be able to cut it. I have some tutorials pinned too, so I'll look at them again and see if they say anything about the cuts. Where do you think you'll do it, the kitchen? That's where I'd really love it...though I'd love it anywhere! |
Priscilla - I checked the tutorials I have and it looks / seems like they all worked with ready-made pre-cut pipes. The other thing that made me wonder is that if you have to cut them, you'll lose the threading on one end, so I wonder what you'd do then....maybe it'd still be fine to use a pipe fitting connector bc the tension would hold it in place...? I don't know if I shared this bar cart from pipe - omg - LOVE: Life: Designed: DIY Pipe Bar Cart | Projects, Tip, DIY | Pinterest |
Wow we have some really talented folks here with great taste! I have to get a new van so no house redoing this year! |
1 Attachment(s) I never even realized the ends were threaded. Never went into that section of Home Depot before! LOL I think I would put it in my work room bc bf isn't as in love with the industrial style as I am. My workroom (in my head so far) will be mostly Victorian with some industrial elements thrown in. I finally decided what colors I will do the walls. Flat burgundy and semi gloss light tan stripes. Also thinking about doing the burgundy not as wide as the tan, maybe 6 or 8" wide, and have the tan wider, but then have like a 1" thin stripe going down the sides of the tan, if that makes sense. Then would love to put in wainscoting or at the very least a chair rail. Don't know what to do with the ceiling yet though. Paint it matching tan perhaps? or may leave white bc I'm leaving the baseboards white. Hopefully I will do a mock up soon of the stripes and decide how wide I will do. Also we went to the consignment store last night and totally scored on these two lamps. They were $79 for BOTH and they still had tags on them that said the shades are handmade in the USA. Great price on those cute lamps! |
So, Pinterest just made me feel really inadequate . I came across this "monthly checklist" for home owners...you know, containing things that I should be doing to my house on a regular basis. Well apparently, I'm a MASSIVE FAIL. I've never even *thought* to clean my fridge's coils....!!! Hello? Am I the only one who doesn't know this stuff?? Homeowner annual checklist | House Stuff | Pinterest |

I have a job, I do not have time to do all that stuff nor do I even care about my refrigerator coils. |
I have just had the gutters cleaned, carpets shampooed, and replaced two shower curtains and the blinds in our daughter's bathroom. Over the last week or so we have moved a set of furniture to the third floor, vacuumed the carpet under all of the HEAVY furniture in our bedroom, washed (most) of the windows and powerwashed the deck AND cut the grass. Today I got to mop up a sweet drink that splattered all of the way across the garage floor--can't track it onto the clean carpet. I still have ugly stuff in the master bath shower:eek:, my pantry is a major accident waiting to happen, and I am missing several pillow cases-who ate/borrowed/lost those:confused:? Refrigerator coils? I am not looking that deeply for dirt! This is cutting into my pool time! Ignore Pinterest! (Isn't it fun though?);) |
I just spent the last two days restaining the deck and a long wood walkway off the deck. In addition to weeding, mowing, edging, and raking only a quarter of the yard. My arms are a little burned, I was bit by something on my leg ( spider? ), my nails are a mess, and the finally, an apparently ticked off bee flew straight into my face and stung me under the eye. If I look down I can see my cheek. But the deck looks nice....... |
Aww man! Sorry about the bug bite! I got a few small ones on our walk tonight, and didn't even go out after dark! Bugs just love me. :( We've been doing a lot inside the house. Decided to put in the laminate flooring ourselves. So far we stripped the carpet and linoleum, took off the base boards, and put down the underlayer. We also redid our banister. New newel post and handrail too. Put up crown molding and painted. Still not even close to being done with the room though. Got a few quotes for a stair company to do our banister and they told us about $1200. It only took about $100 worth of stuff from Lowe's for us to do it. :) |
Geez, that list is a real guilt maker. That, on top of my daily chores and maintenance is more than a full time job. I'm thinking I need a handy man here, just to keep up. |
Totally feeling less pinterest-inadequate now that others are saying that they too do not fret over their dang fridge coils. :p |
1 Attachment(s) I was grocery shopping Thursday and on my way home passed a second hand store, they always have a ton of junky things sitting outside. This vintage china cabinet cough my eye. So I went back to check it out. It was covered with surface scratches but otherwise in perfect condition. I found a recipe on Pinterest for an easy natural wood conditioner plus it covers scratches. (3/4 cup canola oil and 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar) don't rub off just apply and let it soak in I have a lot of antique and vintage glassware and kitchen gadgets. It turned out perfect for my taste ....total spent $80.00  Attachment 401032 |

Honestly, I am not sure where my refrigerator coils are located. It it means pulling it out away from the wall that sucker will never be cleaned. |

Our refrigerator rolls easily. The stove is the thing I can't move. |
