I guess if someone has no self control on spending that would be another good reason not to have a cc. Some cards have high interest rates so that could be a considered a rip off, but when paying it off each month that's never a problem. I just love the rewards I get but most of all it's the peace of mind knowing that retailers don't have easy access to my bank account.

| Sometimes people have to pull the paid off/emergencies only card out of the freezer and use it because there's no other way to pay bills!!

| YT 2000 Club Member | I wonder if people who signed up for the red card 5% discount are more in jeopardy. They had to give out more info to get that card. I did not do that but I shopped at Target. My husband said not to worry about it. So I am chillin until I see some idiotic activity by some dishonest person who cannot respect other people's property. Too bad we have to deal with such low lifers. The hound of heaven sees them and will get them in the end. We reap what we sow! Last edited by sandy simpson; 12-26-2013 at 06:48 PM. | A year ago, I decided to ask myself before I pulled out a credit card "do I really need this" it has worked really well. When it doesn't work is at Christmas and I want to buy for the little one.....oh 11 months out of the year is pretty good. Those out of work have little choice, however being retired I am in a way out of work and on a fixed income with little give at all. I don't travel like I used to but I do travel to Florida once a year to see my Son and family so I have to have 1 credit card, there is not way around it. I tell them not to keep adding credit to it unless I ask them though since I don't want the temptation.

| My limit is now $1500, if an emergency would arise, that would eat up that right away. But better than nothing I guess. Everyone else canceled on me a few years ago, and I was surprised I got approved for $3000 when I first applied. CC is my only card now.

| Quote: I saw that as well and that is scary, but I would hope that when this info first came out that everyone changed their pin number right away. since I do not shop with a debit card and the only one I have does not have a visa/mastercard logo on it, I am out of the loop on how it works now. When they first started issuing visa/debit cards they said that the beauty of it is when at a retailer you don't need to use a pin, you just swipe it like a credit card, is that still how it works??? I was also thinking some of you much younger members might be confused by my posts because now it seems like all the debit cards have a credit card logo, but for older people like me that have had them for 10 or more years when they first came out they did not look like a visa or mastercard and you could not use it at many places.

I use my debit card as a credit card. I sign for it instead of using my pin. Reason is I get cash back if I use it as credit but not as debit. The merchants get charged 3% (usually) for a credit transaction, whether it is an actual CC or debit card matters not. But merchants do not get charged if it is used as debit. So my bank wants me to use as credit so they get 3% from the merchant, and I get 1% from the bank. However, that said, 99% of the time I use cash.

| I had a sewing one with a 5600.00 limit...they raised it themself after us charging, paying, charging, Paying-it has 36 months no interest on the charges. I had them reduce it to 1500.00 (I'm not buying anything sewing related that I need it for) and then increased the CC to $5000.00. It was originally at $3000.00. Of course I used half of that on vet care and emergency vet for her and will use it again for checkups, tail docking and vaccinations, etc. It goes quick. Luckily the other one has no balance so any payments we were making on it will go to the CC. And the larger charge has 24 months no interest.
