A year ago, I decided to ask myself before I pulled out a credit card "do I really need this" it has worked really well. When it doesn't work is at Christmas and I want to buy for the little one.....oh 11 months out of the year is pretty good.
Those out of work have little choice, however being retired I am in a way out of work and on a fixed income with little give at all.
I don't travel like I used to but I do travel to Florida once a year to see my Son and family so I have to have 1 credit card, there is not way around it. I tell them not to keep adding credit to it unless I ask them though since I don't want the temptation.
