OK, everyone, it's been 3 days! How's it coming out there, folks? I see a lot of people have made some eye-opening trips to the grocery store, and there are loads of fresh veggies being purchased out there!(Just think what this thread is doing for the produce departments all over the country! Also, we are helping to support our USA Farmers!! Isn't that a kick??) I would like to hear some comments on how Healthy Eating is going out there! Kara? How did your shopping trip go? Anyone have any problems or challenges (besides resistant spouses :p )? Let's hear from YOU! :D |

My husband and I both eat very healthy now and so does Glad and her husband. Don't wait to get started on this - you never know IF and WHEN you may end up with a serious health problem! God forbid! But, you never know. Start now and help everyone in your family to a much better way of eating! |

Don't buy the junk food; chips, cookies, cake, soda w/sugar, etc. AND stop going to the FAST FOOD places when you go out. Eat more vegetables and fruit. That's a good beginning. |
I so need this!!! I'm so ready to jump on!!! I am 5'7" and was always under weight (110) TILL,,, I got pregnant with my first child. I gained 75 lbs. eeeeeeeeee!!!!!! I was never able to take it all off,,, got pregnant with my son a year and 10 months later and only gained 20. After my son I was around 180, And was able to lose 40. I was very comfortable with that. BUT wouldn't you know it,,,,, I finally got to where I wanted and got pregnant with Val. I only gained 25 lbs with her. But have never really been able to take it all off. I am now 37 and find it easy to shead a few. But to keep it off is another story. I have been as high as 195 but when putting my mind to it I was always able to lose 20 or even 30 lbs. I am such a picky eatter!!! I love salads, and hate dressing. I don't like dips that have sour cream. I hate mayo, katsup mustard or any other spreads. I love chicken but NOT fried. Love tuna plain with just a bit of lemon. I love veggies. Love greens all but peas. Don't care for carrots but will eat everything else. Also a fruit eatter. My big down fall is sweets and red meat. I love my beef! My weight has been like a rollorcoaster and lately I have not been feel good at all. So much has happened and I really havent been taking care of myself the way I should. I haven't been able to get rid of this cold. It's going on 2 months of this. I know it's because of my diet. I sure would love to pull myself together and keep my weight maintained at a comfortable 140-130. I sure can use the help of you all. I'm 172 right now and am giving myself till my birthday to do it. May 21. If not be then,,,, by summer for sure!!! |
 Hi there! Come on and join us. Go back & read all of Glad's notes earlier to get a jump start on a "Lifestyle Change". Remember, this is not a DIET and it can be for your whole family. It sounds like you like a lot of the good foods. You may want to limit your beef though. The sweets really need to be used very sparingly. For me, that means only on special occasions; birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, anniversary. If I do eat something sweet, I normally will do without something that day before I eat the sweet. I normally do without my Protein Drink. Good luck & Happy New Year! |
Hey, Monica! Climb aboard! Good to see you, girl! Anytime is the right time to begin eating right! I want you to be easy on yourself about your goals, though. May will see you a different weight, but be good to yourself and avoid the stress of saying BY MAY. You can do it. You can learn to eat healthy, make good food choices and maintain a good weight! It just may take a little longer then 4 or 5 months. Heck, it took me 18 months to get to 117. It's the little things. Small substitutions. If you cannot avoid sweets (I sure can't) then eat something that is not going to pile on the pounds and is still satisfying! Make your own low fat/low sugar cookies! I will post some recipes really soon. I asked YT folk for cookie recipes, converted them to my style of cooking/eating, and gave them as Christmas presents to my friends with notes telling them they were eating Low Fat/Low sugar cookies! You would not believe all the compliments I got as well as recipe requests! Eating right is certainly not about deprivation. It's about making healthy choices. You are at the icecream shop, and everyone is buying icecream. In the case is the mint chocolate chip you LOVE. There is also a raspberry sorbet, and a fat free frozen vanilla yogurt. Do you WANT the mint chip icecream??? YOU BETCHA!! Do you choose a healthier but satisfying sorbet and yogurt? YES YOU SHOULD!! And once you get used to making the healthy choices, you have it licked. Your body and your doctor will thank you for it!! I see Pat encouraging people to read from the beginning, and that is a very good idea. There have been lots of tips and hints along the way. Have fun with this, people!! And Monica, PM me your stats when you get a sec, OK hon? I'm still looking for comments from other people on how they are doing this week so far! ???? ANYONE???? (besides you, Pat dear :D ) |
Tammy I am soooo proud of you!! Quote:
Maybe when you begin preparing food in a healthy way, your husband will realize that he doesn't mind eating this way at all! That's what happened to my son in law, and he is now in the best shape of his life. He can't even consider eating a cheeseburger because he knows how it will make him feel. Best of luck, Tammy! Keep us in touch with your progress! :D |
Plan I follow I mentioned in above posts that I am on the Jenny Craig plan. I don't always eat Jenny Craig food, but of course they want you to. I found that Lean Cuisines are cheaper. I still don't cook yet cuz I hate too (but that doesn't mean you can't!) This is the plan that I follow...it's 1200 calories a day: Breakfast: Breakfast (about 200-250 calories) and 1 cup of 1% milk Snack (after breakfast): 1 small fruit or 1 cup of fruit Lunch: A salad (as much as you want...non starchy veggies), and a lunch (200-270 calories) Snack (after lunch): 1 small fruit or 1 cup of fruit Dinner: As many veggies as you want (non-starchy) and a dinner (200-300 calories) Snack (after dinner): low fat cookies/cake/etc (200-250 calories) I find 100 calorie packs work great!!! TIP: The more times you eat a day the more your metabolism works, hence you lose more weight. On Jenny Craig you can eat as many veggies and you want!! I'm eating pickles now. :) There is a lot more to it, and if you want you can visit their website (jennycraig.com). My cousin, my friend, and I have all lost over 30lbs. Gotta love Jenny! :animal36 |

Question for you, Nicole... Quote:
What we are talking about here are changing our eating habits and the eating choices we make for the rest of our lives. If you can take what you learn from Jenny and apply it to your eating habits for a lifetime, then you will have accomplished what we are talking about here. I have seen too many people on diet plans that do so well while they are following their plan and paying their money to be members, but when they are done the program, they backslide. WE ARE CHANGING OUR LIVES here. There will be no backsliding because we will train ourselves not only to eat in a healthy manner, but to enjoy eating this way for the rest of our born days. I am hoping you will do this as well! But I respectfully request that we not talk about Jenny Craig anymore, OK? That\'s not what we are after here. Thanks! |
