The shakes at our hospital here are 33.00 for a box of 18 I think....or like 1.50 per shake...well you have 5 a day and if you "cheat" and have any bars they are 1.25...so you spend about 10.00 a day tops...unless you have more....which they encourage you to do...have another shake instead of oreos:( the price compare to slim fast.....it is not for everyone, but for us it worked well...I lost 35 lbs but have gained 5 back cuz of those cookies....but you also have to exercise and change your eating habits...on the link if you surf around you can figure how many calories a day to "maintain" your current weight..anything less than that and you start pulling from your body...the lower you go the more you lose.... |
OK, let's rein it back in here... Quote:
I appreciate your input, BUT that is not why I started this thread. This is NOT a DIET plan thread, this is a LIFESTYLE CHANGE thread. I am so sorry I was not here today, my daughter had surgery and today was my day to take care of her, so I was not able to keep this thread on track. People, we need to look at our every day eating habits. We are not doing a fad diet, a book diet, a shake diet, a carb diet, etc. We are changing the way we eat every single day for the better. We are not buying anyone's prepacked meal plans, or protein & vitamin shakes. We are preparing our own food, or making healthy choices if we eat out. We are watching our fat intake, increasing our vegetables and fruits, cutting back on sweets and sugar filled soft drinks, and exercising. It is a way of life. It is something that will keep us healthy. It is NOT a crash diet where you are guaranteed to lose 20 pounds in 20 days. That will not happen. If that is what you are expecting, that is not where I am going with this. One step at a time. Every single day we look to change something. Small changes. For a lifetime. Questions? Please ask. If I have offended anyone who kicked in diet input today, I am sorry. That is not what this is about. And to my friend Pat, I say THANK YOU for keeping an eye on the thread today and directing and answering questions. I appreciate it! :D |
Congrats! First Assignment Congratulations!! To everyone who began their new eating lifestyle today, you are to be CONGRATULATED! If you are indeed serious about healthy eating, you will lose weight. It is inevitable. :D First Assignment: Here you go, are you READY for this?? (Kara, you did this yesterday, and I am so pleased for you!) Today we are looking at Fat and Sodium in your refrigerator and cupboard. Go to your cupboards and your refrigerator and read the labels on everything there. If you see labels that say there is a high fat content per serving, check what kind of fats there are. Don't know what high fat content means? Let's take a look. On all your labels you will see a total fat content. There will be some breakdowns in that total. Trans fat is the WORST. In the interest of good health, DO NOT eat trans fats in anything. There is scientific evidence that transfat causes cellular damage. Saturated fat is the next "bad" fat. There are many items that are healthy foods that will contain saturated fat, but the point is to keep it to as small an amount as possible. Saturated fats wreck havoc on your arteries, and end up stored in those places like your tummy, thighs, and buttocks. Borrowed from "The Fat Dictionary" "The fat we eat is saturated and unsaturated. These terms refer to the chemical structure of the fat molecules. A low total fat intake, with the majority of fat from unsaturated sources, appears to lower blood cholesterol levels. Too much of any of these fats will increase dietary fat intake, and excess body fat may increase cholesterol levels and the potential to increase body fat." "Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance found in the bloodstream. It comes from two sources- your body and food. It is made by the liver and is used by the body to make hormones and other materials. Cholesterol is an essential part of the human body. It must be present for the body to function normally. However, the average high-fat/high-cholesterol diet tends to add too much cholesterol to the bloodstream. The excess cholesterol accumulates, along with other substances, in the walls of the blood vessels. Over time, this causes the arteries to become narrow and eventually cuts off the blood flow to the heart leading to a heart attack, or cuts off the blood flow to the brain leading to a stroke." SO! If there are transfats in your food, throw it away! If you have food in your cupboard that have high saturated fat per serving, you may want to throw them away. Check what the label says is the serving SIZE. That also may surprise you! At the same time as you are looking at the fat content, look at the sodium content. You will be shocked at the high amounts of sodium in canned food. Try to keep your sodium low for good health. Eat more fresh foods, and if you must choose canned, choose the low sodium products. When you go to the grocery store, READ the labels. Make your choices based on the nutritional content of the food you intend to put into your body. Questions? Ask away! :p |
Reporting Results Decision Let's go ahead and report results weekly on Sundays beginning Sunday January 8th. It is completely understood that not everyone will have weekly weight loss results to report, but report anyway. All you have to do is weigh in and report. If you have lost and you want to celebrate that loss, go right ahead and make a big deal out of it!! We will be excited for you! If it is your goal to lose weight and you have NOT lost, then it is important that we take a look at why not. It may be that we have to take a look at what exactly it is you are eating in a day. Either way, report your weight to the group on Sundays. I also have a suggestion so that we do this in private, just the Club. PM me with your email address. I intend to chart the weigh ins and I can forward the Club chart to only everyone who is a member of the Club. That way, if you would prefer NOT to have your weight loss (OR not) broadcast to the world, you can PM me your weight on Sunday instead of posting, it goes on the chart, and our Club progress is known only to members who get the email. WOW!! I am really excited about this!! And you? :D |
How exciting! I hope I'm not too late to join the band wagon! :) Age: 27 Weight: 145 Height: 5'2" *sigh* I used to wear a size 5 a few years ago & I thought I was fat then. Good Lord! Now my size 8's are gettin snug. |
Sorry..good luck to all of you... |
It's OK, Jim! Quote:

Hey girl! Thanks for getting things cranked up. Those were some good tips you were giving. We already do all those things due to my health problems. I'm not sure how much more I'll be losing as I've been doing this for 3 months since dropping the sodas, white flour, white potatoes, white rice & pasta. I've lost 17 lbs just since then. I've gone from 144 down to 127. I'm sure I'll be plateauing soon! I was 118 when I graduated from high school 46 years ago!*!*! But, I'll be sticking with this as long as I'm still alive! I haven't set a goal on purpose. Best of luck to everyone. |
This is perfect for everyone in the "Lifestyle Change" group. Happy New Year! Fitting thoughts to start the new year ... http://www.llerrah.com/newyearwishes.htm Check your sound ... turn it up. This is neat! So appropriate. Check your pop-up blocker, too. |
Same here, Pat! Quote:

I agree - maybe a few more pounds for me - not sure yet. I'll wait & see what happens but I most definitely will be sticking with the new changes in better eating habits. Good luck to everyone - let's get it in gear everyone & get jump started! Todays a day off for a lot of you - no more excuses - let's just get started! "Let's go everybody & get a good start for 2006!" |
I officially start today!!! I am mentally prepared and ready to go :) Good luck everyone!!! |
Ok, I woke up today determined to do this. I still haven't gotten on the scale, but I will I really will! Now to the kitchen to read labels. |
Welcome everyone! That's great - go to the kitchen & read labels on things you already have. Unfortunately, to really do it right, you may be throwing some things out. Remember as Glad said, watch the fat, sodium, etc. What about all that junk food you have? Chips, cookies, leftover cake soda with sugar in it?? Chuck it all - right into the garbage! Then, just be careful about what you buy the next time to the grocery store. Don't go grocery shopping when you're hungry! That's a no-no! Look for some good fruit or raw veggies to snack on. Did anyone go to diet organizer.com to check out their program they have? I love it and have been using it for over 3 months. Good luck everyone! Let's get on the bandwagon here! |
