I have both and wouldn't choose to do without either. (MacBook, ipad, ipad mini, pc desktop allinone, 2 pc laptops, one of which has a lot of mods & is purely for streaming British TV shows so stays permanently hooked up to my tv).

I love the user-friendliness of apple products & how they all integrate together, but I really don't like the limitations Apple places on you with what you can do with a product you've bought, so I jailbreak them as soon as they are out of warranty.

I loved loved loved Windows XP. My previous desktop had Vista....what a joke...that almost put me off PCs for good. I didn't even keep the thing a year. I've played on windows 8 a bit, don't love it, but can see where they are going with it, but without a touchscreen puter, it seems pointless.

One thing is with Apple you just have very few products to choose from so picking one out is fairly easy, but with PCs you have so many brands. Don't know about others, but I've not found one that is so great I'd stick with it. I've had bad HPs & Toshibas, and my current desktop is an all-in-one DELL that I wouldn't recommend to anyone. Been pretty happy with my Sony Viao though.

As to viruses....there's lots out there for macs too, so make sure you run some good protection no matter what you choose.

Apple! I will never own anything but. I just can't get enough of the lack of problems. I always had problems with my PCs, it never failed. My Macbook has lasted 5 years with no problems (minus the ones I created, like cracking the screen). I just find them very simple. Like all of Apple's products, very user friendly. I've found you need to be a bit more computer savvy with PC's. That said, I have to use both, because we use PC's in school. But personally and at home? Always have Apple.

See I thought that vista was easy. . . . But it was based on the Mac operating system. lol most pc users hated it lol

I'd say try both systems and get the one that is least frustrating to you.

There are pros and cons to both. I have found many more pros with Mac. No plans on going back to PC. Don't be afraid to try. You just may find Mac to be much more intuitive and a stronger system. Yes, viruses are possible. Some of us still are comfortable enough to avoid antivirus.

I did not hate operating a PC except for the filing/saving/uploading/downloading system. Convoluted. Mac is much easier for me. I also can't stand constant spyware and such. It makes me want to smash the thing.

PCs kinda remind me of Internet Explorer - slow as molasses and overun by viruses..

Try for an extended period before you buy and don't settle for PCs for life before trying, imo.

I agree.

Any computer you buy, set up an administrator's account. Then set up a regular user's account for daily use that has limited permissions. This makes it nearly impossible for anything to ever be installed on your computer without your permission. Never install anything from a popup or site that you don't trust 100%.

Keep your computer updated (Macs require a lot less updating, and the updates are faster to install than PC).

For using the computer at home, get a NAT router and password protect your network. Also restrict it to only your computers. Extra layer of protection.

I never use my computers outside my home, but if you do, there are extra precautions when you hook into a "hostile network" at a hotel or Starbucks, for instance.

I have been a happy dedicated Mac use since 1989. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Mac, and have quite a collection because mine never seem to die, so when I get a new laptop for whatever reason I still keep the old one.

Mac has always made computer use fun for me, as well as being completely adequate to handle all my needs, both personal and business, including availability of software.

I have both. But comparing equal $$ $1500 Mac to $1500Pc Not $1500 Mac to $700 Pc. Which alot of ppl do. Somethings are better on mac but I still prefer Pc. Upgrades for me are cheaper and easier ect. Hardware is pretty much all made buy the same ppl. Mac as good customer service. I don't think you can go wrong with either. Macs get Viruses if your on the web. Pc if you use protection and common sense you should never have a problem ime. Don't open links you don't know. Windows 8 is nice after you get use to it but only if you have a touch screen. If you don't have a touch may as well have windows 7 pro JMO

I converted to Mac last year & haven't regretted it once, yet. I love it! My school laptop is a pc however, and everytime I'm on it I think "gosh, Mac is just easier!"

Yes, there's a bit of a learning curve at first, since it's a totally different system, but you'll get the hang of it within a few days & then when you go back to use a PC you're probably going to think the same thing: Mac is just easier!

PCs just seem old school to me. I've had Macs for almost 10 years and grew up with Macs. I use a PC at school, but it's I would never purchase one again myself. I had a Toshiba (an expensive one) to start undergrad and it crashed on me before I made it through two years of school! I switched to a MacBook after that and it is still running, almost 8 years later

Once you go Mac, you'll never go back

This may help Mac* vs PC Debate | Intel

I have both. I prefer PC because I can built a laptop for 1/2 the price. That will outperform my Mac. Nothing old about PC they work the same to me. My Mac my wife wanted because it is small Apple MacBook Air 13.3" Display 4GB Memory 128GB Flash Storage MD760LLA - Best Buy
But my PC is the same with an IPS screen more power same cost. I like to build gaming machines = my preference for Pc.Both work the same to me JME

I've been PC user all my life, custom PCs, custom laptops, everything I could get my hands on.
As far as Apple, I tried Mac few times and it was just strange, software was lacking, couldn't get used to it.
Then I got the Iphone few years ago, and noticed how Apple is strictly about $$$, they want to suck all the $$$ out of your pocket.
Quick example, charger on Iphones is not a industry standart, but only Apple exclusive, making you buy every single accessory specifically for Apple products only.
I refuse to buy anything from Apple now

Like I said earlier I have used both all of my life and I much prefer Mac over PC. It is true the Mac is more expensive , however there is nothing that can be done on a PC that I can't do on a Mac. At one time there were less choices for Mac folks but not any more.

The Macs are more expensive, true, but I am very willing to,pay for it. My last Mac at home lasted 7 years (of hard daily use, the processer finally got the too slow and outdated, while I went thru 5 to 6 PCs at work during that period of time, and 3+systems on the PC).

A lot of it is sometimes getting outside of or staying inside comfort levels. I still have access to both and will always migrate toward the Mac. Recently I bought all new computers for my office. I got some of Botha and am now hearing from my staff that they prefer the Macs when we get more in the future. Their comment is " I can do something that takes 3-5 steps on the PC when it only takes 1to 3 steps on the Mac. I will point out that the Mac was using a mouse years before the PCs started using them, now you never see a P C without a mouse - I used to get laughed at because of my mouse I the old days.

But frankly the Apple Stores are so busy these days I almost avoid going to them! They are full of those cute geeky folks though

If you compare top PC components to Mac the prices are pretty close. Just ppl compare a Mac with a faster processor and a sdd drive with a Pc that has a hdd drive that is alot slower and has a higher chance of crashing. Not the same comparison. If compare equal parts the Pc will run just as smooth. Pricing doesn't mean equal. Theres alot more PC high priced garbage out there. But Upgrades and software PC wins for me. Just depends on what you want to do. Thats the bottom line. If your gonna PC game. PC gaming is easier to do with PC. Mac just now got GPU cards that will game. A gaming machine will be the fastest out there. Some ppl pay more on there gaming machine then I spent on my Daughters first car.

I know someone who sells custom gaming equipment and it is $$$. Boys and their toys.

I agree that when comparing PC vs Mac, you have to compare a comparable PC and not a budget one. That isn't really fair. I did manage to buy my Toshiba Satellite laptop on sale for $300. Can't rattle off the specs because I'm not that savvy, but it can handle running lots of big programs and multiple browsers all at the same time.
