Capt Noonie, I'm surprised you've never had it! It actually sounds as if it is tasty, especially in soups and stews! If I see it here, I may try it, IF they remove the skin, and bones of course.

My mom makes the rock cod Korean style soup semi spicy...it's delicious! The soup is supposed to taste better if the fish is cooked w/the skin, bones & head. I scrape the skin off, it comes off easily, I don't dare look @ the head loll.

I have had rock cod, but not when called idiot fish! At Chinese restaurants they always have tanks full of them. I have another pic at home I'll post later. It was at this restaurant w a tank of rock cod, and one was so obviously dead and belly up!! These fish when alive already look dead. Maybe that's why they are called idiots?

Ok here is the other pic I was talking about. Behind the crack in the glass (which is a nice touch isn't it?) you can see one fish is starting to float. Lol and Chinese restaurants with tanks means they have fresh seafood!!

These fish aren't really swimmers. Even when alive you can't really tell if they are dead or not. Which I guess was what this Chinese place was hoping for?
