I used to hate going to visit my fiances family in Lockport, NY his friends and family would always just stare at me and beg me to just talk.. They did not care about what I was talking about as long as they got to hear my accent. Depending on who I am around, how much I have drank or if I am nervous my scary redneck accent appears!! |

Pop for soda. Euchre. Our major building/location names are shortened (Ren Cen, The Joe, The Soo, The Thumb). Then there is the UP (pronounced you-pee) or Upper Peninsula. people who live there are Yoopers. people who live in the LP are Trolls (bc we live below the bridge). |

In Iowa, where everyone says this is hicksville.......we say pop instead of soda, crick instead of creek, going muddn' instead of four-wheeln', warsh instead of wash are just a few that come to mind. Recently we had taverns for supper. Some one asked what a tavern was......it is a loose meat sandwich made of hamburger. Some call it Manwich or loose meats. We also say supper in place of dinner....our dinner is at noon time and supper is our evening meal. I am sure there are more! |
I say.... I'm going to get a drink from the Bubbla (water fountain) I say.... Can I have a Coffee Cabinet (coffee milkshake) I say.... no suh (you're kidding me) I say.... Let's go to Mickey D's ( McDonalds) Supper is at 6pm everyday, Lunch is at noon Monday- Saturday and Dinner is on Sunday at noon. |
Oh, and we say Wallie World instead of Walmart and McPukles for McDonalds! |
