I thought the leaves looked like rhododendron. Mom has hydrangeas too and the leaves look nothing like the bush in the picture. It's a little early for hydrangea to be blooming also. At least here haha. Rhododendron bloom in spring around the same time as azaleas here

My neighbors have one that looks just like that and it's a rhododendrum and it's in bloom now.

Does it lose it's leaves in the winter? If yes, it's a deciduous azalea, if not, Rhododendron.

I agree. I have 3 of them. They bloom in the spring/summer & stay green during the fall/winter. The flowers on mine go from deep pink one year, to white the next. I'm not sure if that color change is typical. But that's what mine do.

Well seems the two things it could be are toxic to dogs and its in the back yard so sadly it's got to go but luckily I have an awesome dad to do that. It is pretty for sure and it is a massive bee magnent. Callie doesn't mess with plants but Sammy comes over at least once a week and he puts everything in his mouth so I worry about that.

I thought hydrangea too but it's way too early in the season to be blooming!! Whatever it is, it's beautiful!!

it definitely is a rhodendrum and this is exactly when they bloom. The leaves should be dark green and rubbery.
That is a good size and health looking, it would not be cheap to replace so before you chop it down you might want to see if someone wants it. But why cut it down, if your dogs are not out there alone, which I know you don't like then why worry, we have had those type of plants and many of my friends do with no problems.

My mom showed Sammy a flower the other day and he snatched it and tried to eat it he is so fast it worry's me.

Yes it's a rhododendron and yes it is toxic to dogs. Ditto for azaleas. I removed all but safe plants in my yard. It's pretty but not worth it. I'm with you, have Dad get busy.
