| My Mom's Doxi can't walk Rudy isn't doing very well. It seems crate rest isn't working and he will need surgery in the immediate future to correct his disk issues. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. My mom has been helping my brother out a lot both financially and physically since the death of his wife who was the mother to his 3 very small children. Carmen passed away in October very suddenly. I hope 2013 is a better year for my family

| When I was in the vet a month ago, with pre-natal check up on Karina, there was a lady in there with a doxi that was not able to walk....she could stand but she was not able, or would not, walk. The ortho surgeon put her on Glyco-Flex III, and told her to put the baby on that until she was able to schedule the dog for surgery....well, a month later, that lady was back in there yesterday when I was there for Karinas c-section. That doxi was walking fine, with just a small glitch in her rear legs, and she cant go up stairs well....but she is essentially mobile and pain free until her disc surgery can be scheduled in January. After the lady left, I asked the ortho surgeon if he had ever heard of Dasuquin and what he thought about it. He told me he likes it but the stuff he put that doxi on is better and less expensive and the dogs LOVE the flavor....he told me it was Glyco-Flex III...I looked it up when I got home and for all of us that have babies taking Dasuquin, this stuff may be worth a try...it is stronger and it is more than 50% less expensive....I ordered some today for my babies and my brothers collie....each bag has 120 soft chews (it is available in tablets too) and the bag is less than $30.00, from VetDepot. "Get more joint protection than Dasuquin for your pet for less! Save over 40% buying Glyco-Flex at VetDepot. Glyco-Flex III has 11% more Glucosamine and 25% more MSM than Dasuquin. GlycoFlex offers joint support for dogs, cats, and horses. Glyco-Flex contains Glucosamine, MSM, Green Lipped Mussel (perna canaliculus), and other vitamins and minerals to provide the maximum amount of protection for cartilage and joints. GlycoFlex supplements for dogs, cats, and horses are available as chewable tablets, soft chews, pellets, and powders in a variety of sizes." Perhaps your mommas little Rudy would benefit from this medication, and she wont have to float a loan to get it! It may postpone surgery, it may certainly help with the pain from the disc issue....it certainly did with that doxi I saw in the vet a month ago and then again yesterday. She and Rudy are certainly in my prayers! Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 12-20-2012 at 09:31 AM. |

| hi Lisa... just seeing this. Is this the same problem Bailey had last year? Is he on the same meds as Bailey --- I can't remember all the names but I know steroids was one.. that is the one that reduced the swelling of the disk and helped it form a "scab" according to the vet.

| I hope Rudy does well on the medication and it helps enough to keep him out of surgery or at least to put surgery off a while. Sending your family prayers and here's to all having a happier, healthier New Year!

Oh no... I am sooo sorry. I know we were very lucky Bailey was not paralyzed. The sergon and the vet were concerned about that and warned of the posibility. After going through what we did I know how hard it is. I hope and pray the crate rest and med help btw... I'm not sure if it is the same sergery but here in Miami I was quoted starting $5000.00. I did follow your advice on getting care credit!
