Isn't Battery Park just right on the water? It looks to me as if they built all those apartments and parks, promenades just right down there a bit above it on the landfill!!! Guess they didn't think they would ever get a storm pushing some water in - or didn't care! Wonder why contractors build and inspectors okay constructing living quarters where it can be so dangerous in a big storm?

Now that man needs to be beat with a stick.. At least leave the kids at home or with somebody that actually has a functioning brain!!

I went out to check the boat, I thought there was a lull in the storm. There was, till I got outside. :eek: Those gusts are scary... too many trees around here. Boat is still there... I do not know why though!

Because nobody ever bothers with building codes until after the storm hits and they realize what kind of damage can happen. Each state varies so much, even here in FL counties vary with Dade county having the strictest guidelines.

Yup and there are saying this storm will push the water up the Hudson.

I know I just can't believe people are so d*mn stupid! We have been home all day and don't plan on going anywhere until its all over.

Sorry Kathy I had to laugh about you saying you're not sure why the boat is still there. We are in between DC and Baltimore and seem to have a lull too. I haven't went outside to check though.

Wonder if it wouldn't save FEMA money and angst if contractors and buyers thought about what could happen first? hahaha

Weeeellllll... lol.... My husband is a general contractor that specializes in storm damage so he travels to wherever storms hit so he works a lot with FEMA and their nickname for the Weather channel is the Unemployment Channel. I am also a licensed claims insurance adjuster on the side.
The insurance companies and people's life's would the ones who would profit the most if everybody had better guidelines.

Haha! Don't step outside... it's a trick! Seriously though, the gust took my breath away!

I figured out why the boat is still there... all the water was sucked out of the creek (actually a tributary, lol, we call it a creek), and we are now muddocked! Usually have 4-6 foot at the dock.... it is gone! The bad part is when it comes back in!

I just came across the other thread about your disc issues, how are you doing with the weather? I know I tend to more problems when rain comes but I also have a lot of metal in various bones too.

I just talked with my friend...she is fine and as prepared as she can be. She takes a very straight forward approach to things and has plans A,B and C in place...just in case! She's all hunkered down with her cat, food, meds, flashlights, batteries, water and plenty of books for reading...I told her to call when and if she wanted to even if it's in the middle of the night. I know she'll be fine :)

Oh yes! I could get a job at the Weather Channel, lol! The lower Barometric Pressures really set me off. I get pain where I forgot I have body parts!:eek:
