Flu shot

I get the flu shot each fall and have for several years. Never have had a problem with it except maybe sometimes that night or next day feel a little flulike a few hours.

A lot to think about. I don't know if my anemia would classify me as someone who really needs to get it or not. Those of you who got/ get the shot did you get it at a doctors office or somewhere like CVS?

My employer provides flu shots for anyone who wants them. I have taken advantage for the last 8 or 9 years except for one. I had a sinus infection and couldn't take it one year. I was sick all that winter with sinus infections and upper respiratory infections. I have never had a reaction to the flu shot. A nurse comes to our office and gives them, in fact this coming Tuesday is flu shot day at the bank..and yes I am getting one.

I've gotten it from the the pharmacy department of the grocery store several times, Walgreens, Target, and this year Sam's club! Last year I tried to get it from my doctor and he was out of it.

My kids and I are all allergic to latex.

Like Jadabug I get them through my employer, they come into the office every year and set up a clinic. they offer flu shots, wellness exams, free toothbrushes and floss (all all that kind of stuff).

My employer wraps all this around open enrollment for our healthcare benefits.

I do know people who get their flu shots every year at either CVS, Walgreens or another pharmacy and have not had any problems. I have used the CVS Minute Clinic a couple of times for sinus infections and just a few weeks ago to get my Tetnus shot (I believe they called it TDAP). Always have been a GREAT experience.

I get the flu shot every year at my doctor's office. I am a teacher and I figure it can't hurt since I am around sneezing, sniffling, coughing children all day long. I have never had a bad reaction to it, such as flu-like symptoms, just a little sore spot on my arm from the shot itself. I am also allergic to latex and have never had an issue with that aspect of it either.

Luckily for you you probably had the one without the latex components. For people who are very sensitive to latex like my friend, she is having a very widescale reaction to the latex...she didn't know about the latex connection with the flu shot. In the future you should make sure you receive the one without the latex components. Why take a chance?

I can't imagine a teacher NOT getting the shot...when my kids were school age I was sick all the time with the ills they brought home! I commend all teachers for what you do and all that you have to put up with these days, I hope its rewarding to know that you make a difference...!

I read the list and the of all those listed I only saw one that MAY contain a latex cap.

FLUVIRIN® Novartis Vaccines
0.5 ml prefilled syringe
Warning: The tip caps of the FLUVIRIN® prefilled syringes may contain natural rubber latex which may cause allergic reactions in latex sensitive individuals.

All the rest listed contained no latex. The important thing is you should tell the nurse giving the shot of any allergies.

Every single time I go to my PCP as I am getting up onto the table they ask me if I am allergic to Latex, before they glove up. When I got my flu shot, there was an extra question on the consent form about latex allergy and the nurse asked me again before she got the shot. So I was asked about latex allergy 3 times that day, once in writing.
