The christmas thread
 
Last year we had a few threads, about Xmas, what we were doing, decorating, sending, celebrating etc.

So I thought I'd post here for others to share their Xmas plans, parties, decorating ideas, recipes, you name it!!

Tis my favourite time of year.
Fall with it's lovely crisp snap of air
Has come and gone;

Winter is approaching
Cold nights, and cool days
Snow dusting roadways
An ice storm has come and gone


It is time to think of Christmas.


Well what I have done is clean out the basement and pull out the Xmas decorations. Making a list of what I "need" and what I want. Going to get Exterior lights out this year!!

Im not even thinking christmas yet Im still in Halloween mode because my daughter wants to have a halloween party so Im preparing for that. I have put some thought into what I want to get everyone for christmas this yr though. Your really motivated to already be thinking about xmas decor

I can't wait for Christmastime!!! I am counting the days 'til Thanksgiving (we pull out all of the Christmas decorations after the turkey has been put away).

Same here I'm still thinking Halloween. Guess it wouldn't hurt for me brainstorm red & green, Christmas is my favorite time of the year after all ;)

I can not wait for Christmas! And yes.. My tree will be up in 3 weeks! Haha! I just need lights and I'm set! Got some new things for my tree this year so I can't wait!

I just finished up decorating for Halloween, I made some burlap Halloween throw pillows this year and I love all the fall scents with candles. I guess because fall means a break in 100 degree weather, I love Halloween more than ever. Can't wait for that "crisp snap of air! I don’t start thinking about Christmas until after Thanksgiving. My big event for Christmas is decorating Christmas cookies with my grown sons, an annual event that they pretend to love!

My favorite time of year!!! House decorated from top to bottom and a huge 7'5" tree in the front room by the window...over one thousand lights on the tree!!! Oh you have me wanting to put the tree up now...will wait til mid November though, Our Thanksgiving is Oct. 10 this year...not really a fan of Halloween, kids all grown up now, so looking forward to a big old fashioned family Christimas!

I have several themes, here is my wine tree, I just bought a larger one at the end of the season, I was collecting to many ornaments for this one. I use white, purple and dark pink light on it, and I set it on an old sideboard that was painted with grapes, I also found a wine themed santa.

in my foyer I have a swarovski crystal tree, it has a combination of the yearly stars and their smaller themed ornaments. I have a crystal addiction

I like Burgandy, this one is in my Bedroom

I NO I have not put any of this up yet, I do most of it during Thanksgiving weekend.

my newest obsession and theme are glass Tree toppers. I just love them, I think they are so pretty, this tread reminds me that I should start hunting for a few more, my DH was a nice and made stands for them. I hope you think they are as pretty as I do

oh and I think I may have mentioned I like gold, well I guess I think at Christmas there is never a thing as to much bling:D or to much Gold:D Here are a few shots from my dinning room. Last year I organized an outing for our Lake's Ladies group to see the play Wicked and prior to the outing I hosted a brunch at my home, that is what all the food on the table is for. This year we are going to see The Jersey Boys and I will hosting the brunch again.

Thank you seems like we both love going overboard during the holidays. LOL one of the reasons I have so many photos is it helps me from year to year remember where to put everything. I used to put up a display of Christmas Houses at one end of my dinning room. I would pile up books and boxes and so forth to create all the levels, I finally realized how helpful it would be to photograph the stages and especially how all the books and boxes were positioned before I draped green fabric and fake snow all over it. So that is one of my tips, if you do an elaborate display photograph it in the making it will make it much easier to recreate the following year.

I also have very large Rubbermaid type storage tubs for all this, they are labeled by rooms. To make room for the holiday decor I have to remove everyday things, so that gets put into the tubs for that room, it makes it quicker on both ends and less of a mess since I finish one room before moving on to the next.

I want a tree...bf says no, we go out of town for the holidays because we live in College Station for college, and drive 4hrs to my bf's hometown. Well this year I want to stay here until christmas eve. Have my holiday break from work devoted to my bf and to Luma, not to being stressed out about his family. I want a tree, but we have NO ornaments, and he says it's a waste of money! How did I get stuck falling in love with the Grinch?! :D :rolleyes: :p

We go out of town almost every Christmas to visit my family in NY, Christmas is not a day it's a season and IMHO that starts right after Thanksgiving and goes until the weekend after New Years so tell him that. Also you can do a lot with a little so start looking at garage sales,Thrift stores, dollar stores, Big Lots. etc. Start with a full prelit 4 or 4.5' tree and put it on a nice size table top, you will get a lot of bang for your buck. And thanks for the compliment

Carmen here is another idea to help win him over, tell him that lately you have had a very strong urge to get VERY romantic under the glow of nothing but the lights from the Christmas tree. LOL how did you think we wound up with a tree in our Master Bedroom;);)

OMG Donna :eek: Those photos make me want to put up a tree now. The wine theme is just fabulous! :D

I love your decor and thanks for the "glimpse" into your home. Such a shame we don't live close. We could be wine buddies ya know lol ;)

I used to be a decorator. Doing a lot of trees in people's homes and businesses. I had enough of decorations to do about 12-14 trees lol. So the first thing you look at is your style whether it is modern, country, traditional, etc. Next hobbies, colors, etc.

Did a traditional red and green velvet Victorian tree, toy tree, a nature tree, mardi gras tree, black and gold. . . Goes on and on. lol it is a lot of fun. But every holiday I am like this. Love to decorate the house. Right now I am working on Halloween. . . .
