I love your decor and thanks for the "glimpse" into your home. Such a shame we don't live close. We could be wine buddies ya know lol ;)

we surely would be, you and I could sip wine while Tessa, Daisy, and Lola played at our feet.

if you look closely you will see some gold ornaments, those are some of my old corks that I spray painted with gold glitter, and stuck a floral pick that has a thin wire attached to the other end, and then stuck them in the tree laying them on top of branches. LOL we drink a lot of wine so it was a quick and cheap way to get a lot of ornaments. This year I will have to get a picture of Lola in her wine dress underneath that tree.

thanks guys, we are proud of our home because we have really worked hard for it, and at times I think we have worked and still work way to hard. I often yearn for a condo:D

For Nancy here are a few shots pics of the master bedroom and view, it is one of the best parts of the house. I had the bed put in the center of the room with a free standing pony wall behind it, the bed looks directly out at the lake. I used to keep a chest at the bottom of the bed, but Lola started jumping up on it to get on the bed and when she started jumping off our bed I decided to move under the window. She enjoys laying ther since it gives her a birds eye view of the back yard and lake. I think the picture of her is cute, she was sound asleep in another bed one morning and I layed a suitcase I had just packed on the chest and before I knew it she was up there trying lying as close to it as she could get, LOL she does not like to be left behind:D

this is the sitting room portion, the windows are inbetween the tall chest and my makeup table.

To me the photos with the christmas decor seems so dull

Oh it's a lake, even better! The first picture just had snow/ice and I could tell it was a lake. Lola looks so sweet in that picture and I imagine she loves looking our window. You have created such a lovely home.

I can't agree more. Your home is quite lovely Donna and so is your Lola ;)

I know I am a crazy lady but several like the one in my bathroom are pretty small. Up until we started working on the basement I left all my trees upright with the lights on them in the basement under tarps. Last year I took apart our main tree because I did not want to get it dirty from all the dust, my plan is when the basement is finished is to use it down there and get a taller thinner tree for the Great Room, in the mean time I bought a really full table top tree that I put on the sideboard that usually sits in front of that window. LOL my husband who does not help with one decoration was not happy about the short tree, he keeps asking me why we don't have the full size tree, I keep telling him to feel free to assemble and light it:D I am not holding my breath for that to happen:rolleyes:

I hope I am not posting to many pictures, like Lola, Christmas is another one of my passions so I love sharing and seeing other people photos of their decor.

Gail asked about Christmas traditions, for most of the years I have been married we host a dress up Christmas party and ask our friends to bring a gift for a local charity. In looking at all these holiday photos I came across an old picture that I must have scanned. The picture is probably from around 1995 and it is of two of my yorkies that are now in Rainbow Bridge, Duffy on the left and his half sister Murphy. (it makes me sad and smile at the same time) This was made into an invitation that said you are formally invited....... LOL that was back in the old days when you stamped and mailed an invitation in lieu of using evite. Do you guys host holiday parties?

linz06 10-04-2012 07:04 AM

Oh I LOVE these pictures!!! I am soooo ready for Christmas! This morning we had a really thick frost and my friend just texted me and said it's trying to snow where she lives, a couple of hours away!! I love winter until Christmas, and then after New Years it can go away.

I am such a Christmas freak! I will start watching the Shopping Channel in September/October when they are starting to sell Christmas items, just because it's something Christmasy on tv lol!

We have only had two Christmases in our house. The first year we had our tree in our living room. Then we bought new furniture and there was no room! So last year we put it up in our breakfast nook. We don't really use that room but it is right off the kitchen and you can see it there. I miss it in the living room though because we spend our evenings there! In the next few years we will be transforming our breakfast nook by bringing in my mother-in-law's antique piano and some seating. I think the tree will look better then :)

Do you guys do real or fake trees? I loooooooooooooove real trees but I like to have my tree up for too long, and we have really old wood floors with some pretty wide cracks in some places (we don't want to refinish - we love them!) and I think the needles would get stuck in them! My parents have a real tree when we have Christmas at the lake, and my in-laws always have a real tree. So for now, we'll have fake at home!

Does anyone have outside pictures of their houses? I am so unsure what to do with our house on the outside! We have "cool white" bulbs around the rooflines of our old 2.5 story character home, and a couple of those spiral trees in the front. For the last two years we put out light-up candy canes and some of the old-school lighted reindeer (in warm white, which contrasted with the cool white on the house!) We sold those this year. I feel like I want it to look traditional and thought of maybe some lighted garland around the front door or something. We can't go totally extravagant because it is normally -40 degrees the day we do our decorating lol!

linz06 10-04-2012 07:08 AM

Oh, and it has always been my dream to have a Christmas tree farm. My husband and I have talked at great length about it lol! During the holiday season, we'd have weekend sleigh-rides for kids and hot chocolate and apple cider for families who come to pick out their tree.

We love our house in town but said if we were to ever move at all, we'd move to an acreage. So who knows, maybe some day! For now, we are staying chained to our desks at our regular jobs lol.

CouversMom 10-04-2012 10:14 AM

I love Christmas time too :D We got our first real tree last year. We also have old unfinished floors and the needles made a mess, but it was worth it to have the scent.

The past couple years I have just lit up the columns on our porch and put up a wreath. I'm hoping to do more this year, but I will wait until after Thanksgiving to decorate. I like to enjoy my fall decorations until Thanksgiving.

linz06 10-04-2012 11:33 AM

Thanksgiving in Canada is this weekend :D I anxiously await the end of Halloween to start getting my Christmas stuff ready! I normally decorate in mid-November.

I have this great pine-smelling candle that I light up by our fake tree lol!

Shelby&Seymour 10-04-2012 02:14 PM

I didn't know you were celebrating "Thanksgiving" this weekend.... Yeah for our Canadian friends.... and can I say I am thankful for all my Yorkietalk friends!!

As far as Christmas decor, I will probably start doing some decorating at the beginning of November.
As usual, I will be putting my "Yorkie Trees" up in the family room. Every year the dogs each get a new ornament. :D

I have 2 pencil trees (a 6 foot & a 7 foot) in the formal livingroom. I like the thinner trees in my Victorian looking room. I think I have posted previous pics..... every year I "mix it up" a bit! ;)

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving!!

I was feeling SO Christmasy this weekend :) My friend sent me a text on Saturday morning saying she just finished watching Elf on tv! Normally they don't start playing Christmas movies until December! I spent the weekend flipping through the Sears Wishbook, and looking at my cousin's wife's Regal catalogue - the Christmas edition! I was at my mom's house and she had stocked up on Mandarin oranges - they totally remind me of Christmas time! Yesterday (a holiday so I was still there!) my mom said "Was that a leaf or a snowflake I saw fall in front of the tree?" I went to look through the window and yup - SNOW! It melted as it hit the ground but that just did it - I made a cup of hot chocolate and started a fire in the fireplace :D

Just 11 more weeks!

BiewerYorkie 10-09-2012 10:29 AM

I retired in February after over 26 years of working retail. I am actually looking forward to Christmas this year!!

Thank you seems like we both love going overboard during the holidays. LOL one of the reasons I have so many photos is it helps me from year to year remember where to put everything. I used to put up a display of Christmas Houses at one end of my dinning room. I would pile up books and boxes and so forth to create all the levels, I finally realized how helpful it would be to photograph the stages and especially how all the books and boxes were positioned before I draped green fabric and fake snow all over it. So that is one of my tips, if you do an elaborate display photograph it in the making it will make it much easier to recreate the following year.

I also have very large Rubbermaid type storage tubs for all this, they are labeled by rooms. To make room for the holiday decor I have to remove everyday things, so that gets put into the tubs for that room, it makes it quicker on both ends and less of a mess since I finish one room before moving on to the next.

Thanks for all the tips. I love how you stacked up books for the buffet. Absolutely beautiful.

I'm loving the idea of photos for remembering how to decorate from year to year. Dblain, your house is gorgeous!!!

There was a lot of discussion about what to do with your Christmas cards after the holidays. I found this idea on Pinterest last year, and did it with my Christmas cards, and I really liked the way it turned out and you can set it out year after year.

Anyways, all you do is punch a hole, then put a binder clip through and some ribbons. Wha La!

November is coming!

I bought all my fruit for the Christmas Pudding, and fruit cake today:)

Also got a reminder from Yonge St Mission for help with the Xmas dinners. I love to do that.

I'm going to keep my ear open, as Thanksgiving this yr, I heard about a volunteer "share your Thanksgiving with someone". I think I'd like to do that for Christmas. It is geared mainly to new immigrants to Canada, to give them a bit of an idea about what our holidays are about.

And Donna I agree with all the other posters; your home is beautiful:thumbup:

I've been looking for this thread for 2 days and my Search wouldn't find it! Finally went to Forums!

I bought a 48" fiber-optic ornament Christmas tree for the den this year as complications from my hip are going to keep me from even bothering with the big tree this year! I got this tree to put on a table with a Christmas skirt on it and hopefully it will be as bright and jewel-toned as the 36" one I had for the bedroom years back. It was shipped the other day so I hope it shows up here pretty soon. Can't wait to put it up and turn it on! Hope it's pretty and not cheesy! :)

I will go to Amazon my account & pull it up. Was from National Tree. The shorter ones stay brilliant and jewel-toned whereas the tall ones wash out - or at least all I've ever seen. I pray it is like my smaller, old one!!! Right back!
