| Taget Battle (not Yorkie Related) Early in the Summer a few people in our subdivision found out a developer had plans to build a Super Target in the County owned woods behind our subdivision and was sure the 3 County Commisioners would sell him the property. Since August we formed a front and relentleslly fought a battle, with petetions, weekly meetings and yard bill boards. We had over 4000 signatures from our Small Commnity and have had meeting presented to the comissioners as to why we do not want this massive store plus others in our back yard. I love Target but just did not want to look at it everyday from my back yard.. Last night, there were 10 more speakers lined up to once again say why we do not want this. The County Commisinor spoke first. He was one of three to vote and he was the "swing vote" . He annouunced at the end of his speach, was going to vote " NO" the packed filled auditoriuum . we were all going crazy and I was sittinng near the developer and watched his mouth open up and drop. He has built many Targets in the USA and has nnever lost a battle to build one.. As a result ouur 10 speakker did not have to speak we all went to have a few beers and celebtated. If your neighborhood wants to puut inn a Walmart or a Target and you are opposed youu can join forces and fight a battle !!!!! YOU CAN FIGHT CITY HALL !!!!! |

| I'm happy that you got your way, but may I ask why you didn't want the Target?

| Target Battle We didn't want Tarrget because it would have generated 10,000 more cars in our neigborhood on a daily bases, decreased our property value and put our small businness owrers out of buusiness and there is already 3 other Targets i can get to in 20 minuites from my house. Like I said i love Tarrget and shop their buut do not want top see it in the beautiful woods behind my house.. |

| Are you certain that is the end of it? Do you know for certain that Target won't take it to court? The same thing happened many, many years ago in our town with Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart took it to court. Our smaller town didn't have the money to fight it in court and lost, of course. I don't know about Target, but this is how it goes with Wal-Mart across the country. If you fight it, they just take it to court. They have the money to win and know the smaller communities don't have the money.

| I can see why you wouldn't want a big store in your backyard. I am pretty proud of this: WAL-MART is not allowed to build in the City of Chicago How's that for strong union practices and blue collar workers here?

Ohhhh you are so lucky, we already have 2 super Wal-Mart’s 15 mins. from each other and now they are wanted to build another on right down the road from us. It is soo pathetic!! We have 2 super targets also... can you "competition!!" I know that this is a new town and its growing very fast but this is a little over board. I would have fought it also. No one wants that much traffic in their backyards… |

| Good for you! I wouldn't want a mall in my backyard either! Kristy- go Chicago! Unfortunatly we have a moron for a mayor who once said to our area's young professionals group that rather than offering tax incentives to businesses to build here, his idea to build up our economy would be to build another Walmart. We have 2 Walmarts within 10 minutes of my house, and at least 2 more within a 45 minute radius. (Not to mention the numerous other reasons why it's a bad idea to saturate the area with one store and have your economy depend on a discount retailer!! Is it any wonder I want to move far, far away from this place?!) |
