YT 1000 Club Member | Another tragic and sad story of a baby mauled to death by a dog... This poor family has not only lost a baby but their dog will be euthanized as well. Sad for everyone and a painful reminder that you always have to watch children around dogs (no matter the size).

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Oh what a horrible tragedy, I'm not sure what to think. The baby and the dog played many times together successfully, and the dog never once growled. It’s like everything is fine, until it isn’t. There was another one last week with a lab and a baby was in the swing. About a year before that I read of a pit bull mix and a baby in a swing. In those cases the child was left unattended, but in this case the family was with the baby and dog. My heart goes out to the family.

| I read about that yesterday....so sad. We baby our dogs and dress them and try to humanize them...attribute human feelings and human reasoning to them...and seems likes we forget a dog is an animal with animal instincts. While we love them, we can't predict their behaviour no matter how long we've known them. Can't imagine what that family is going through....horrible tragedy.

| It is NOT safe to let a baby around any dog.....you NEVER know what triggers this behavior...that baby and that dog had played all day long...apparently the baby had been around the dog since birth. But the dog had had enough for the day, and when the baby came back over, that was all it took...the dog was tired of fooling with the baby and he took care of the "problem"....how sad....but it happens all the time and will continue to happen, because people just do not believe THEIR dog would do anything like that!! So, they let the baby and the dog interact.....and, like nancy1999 says, "everything is fine, until it isnt." .....and the baby is going to pay for it dearly. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | How tragic for everyone. I continue not to get "it". Toddlers around any dog, but a Mastiff/Rhodesian cross, which is still a puppy?. The supervision quite obviously was inadequate to prevent the death of a baby... And now you have a traumatized family, a dog that will lose its' life.

YT 1000 Club Member | Update on this story.... I am so happy to hear that the dog was not euthanized. Nevada dog that mauled 1-year-old boy to death on his birthday spared death sentence by judge* - NY Daily News

| Wow, that's really surprising. I'm glad he will be given to a rescue that will know how to handle him...
