The reason I think it's a big deal whether it was done in 1983 or now is because of his actions in years following. To me it was just a glimpse of who this man really is. If this was just one incident over the many years, it may not be that big of a deal.....lessoned learned, don't do it again. But since his actions over the following years have been equally questionable, it's a huge red flag and would that we should take heed too. By ignoring or excusing the overall personal behavior of many who run for political offices is the reason why America is in such rapid decline and turning into a nation of psychopaths and narcissists.

People are really defending this guy. I dont care if it was 1983, yeah it might have been a little bit more acceptable back then, but not something people would do! also people keep saying that the dog was an airtight kennel obviously it wasn't if it pooped itself and ran all down the back of the car. Its not like they took a 5minute trip down to grandmas with the dog on the car either. It was a 12hour trip to Canada! Its just disgusting.

Can you imagine the fear that poor dog had to be experiencing while locked up there....probably wondering what the hell he did to deserve such treatment. Then to be hosed down & locked back up....I can't even wrap my mind around it.

Some years, being a Brit living in the States, I wish I had the right to vote...this year...it's not bothering me too much, as there's nothing to chose from

The fear that poor dog undoubtably felt is beyond sad. The least Romney could do is admit it wasn't a good thing and show remorse. But to say that his poor dog liked it up there? I'm nearly speechless.

I completely agree! I cannot believe people are defending this man! The poor dog defecated all over itself and the car and all he did was stop and hose him off? This was 1983, not 1901... He knew better and this definitely was not accepted in the 80's. Disgusting. Definitely NOT someone I want running my country.

This was in 1983. I don't think it was a good idea. Romney is not my favorite, but to me it's a non issue.

Air tight crate? Can you explain to me how the dogs feces dripped down the back window then? How did the dog breath? The dog didnt mind?! Really... What if that crate fell off the top of the car while it was going 70? I definitely do not see this with the same perspective you do.

This has been on the news for weeks now and he has every excuse imaginable for it. The dog supposedly had a "windshield" in his crate to protect him from the elements. I had to stop watching it all....just too much for my head.

Did not read about the poop dripping down the window and such... where did he say this? If the dog was clearly in distress, and defecating all over, that's terrible.
