| What would you do? So, next door to me is a younger couple (mind you I'm 23 and I think they're just a little bit older then me) who are not married and both him and her own a seperate house. Not that this bothers me but to make a long story short cars are constantly coming and going out of the house, I guess the guy who owns it has a younger brother that lives with them too. In other words they're young, having fun, always going places, etc. Anyway to get to the point, they have a beagle. Now, I'm an animal lover to the extreme, and my heart breaks saying this, but I'm starting to wonder if the beagle is treated that well. According to the "subdivision gossip" and the owner himself (granted it's his side) the ASPCA has been called on him becasue a neighbor witnessed him kicking the dog out of the house for vomiting on the floor. To quote my neighbor, " I didn't really kick him, I nudged him outside because that was the icing on the cake for my bad day." Now this beagle, and I'm sure most of you know beagles, likes to howl and likes to roam (aka walkies) well I never see this dog out for a walk. Nope, instead the owner lets him out at 5 am where he'll howl from then until about 8 am (mind you our bedroom window butts right up to their backyard fence). Then he'll let him out again from 10 pm until about 11 pm. And he starts howling and howling. I try to take Gizmo out and since this damn dog is howling he can't focus to do his business. Gizmo used to in the morning start barking too, but now just sleeps through it because it's so fricken early. This has been going on since we moved in back in Feb. Today I guess was my breaking point. The dog was out at about 9:45 and was howling. At about 10:45 I finally called the police and was asking what my options where when they finally let the dog in. I was told that next time it happened to call them, and the'll go over there and talk to the owners. Did I do the right thing?

| absolutely. Most cities have nuisance dog ordinances and from what you're describing these people are in violation. Who knows maybe a visit from law enforcement will be a wake up call for them and they'll start taking better care of the dog and being a little more considerate of their neighbors i.e. you. We won't even go into the possibility of the dog being allowed to run loose and getting into traffic. |

| Well I know I'm hot headed, and even my Dad (who I called before I called the cops) said, "If you handle the situation it'll end up with you be hauled off to jail for popping the guy in the jaw and taking the dog away from him." Any he's right. I just thought the cops would be more anonymous since I don't want the problems to, erm escalate.

| Calling the police is the correct thing to do. If the officers show up,they will explain that a citation can be issued to them. They will tell them their rights, tell them their neighbors rights and leave. The next time you call they will be ticketed. Ive done this before,my neighbors car alarm would go off every 30min almost every night. We let it go for 2 nights. I told my husband on night 3 that either he called the cops or I was going to go be a not so nice neighbor and the cops would probably show up anyway. The great thing was they never knew it was us. The got the alarm on the car fixed the next day and it has been great sense. |

| Yep, you did the right thing. The cops aren't going to do anything about the dog being ignored or possibly neglected, but the howling is a noise disturbance and you can complain about that. There was a house right across the street from us that a bunch of frat boys (they seemed to be) rented out and they were always having parties. I told bf next time they have a loud party and running around outside in the front yard and street tossing cans around and being shirtless I'm going to call the cops. I never got to, they moved out really soon after that.

| just had this exact same problem with the neighbor's beagle across the street. i confronted her about it first and at first they said they were adjusting to a new schedule and he was dealing with seperation anxiety. she basically tied him to a tree each morning in the front yard and left to walk the kids to school and then came back to walk him later. after a week and a half of being woken up every morning by him i finally just fb her again and said i'm sorry to be this way but i'm pregnant, exhausted, and your pup is waking me up at 8am every day and howling for an hour. it's not getting better so if you could please find another way to do your routine that would really help me out...and it stopped so if neighbors are nice i'd go to them, if not defin go to police, but never talk to neighbors first and then police because they will know who was complaining to them and turned them into the cops and that's never good. i think you prob did the right thing by just making a report and follow up report if it continues. that way it's always anonymous |

| You did the right thing. This way, it stays anonymous... but they still know they are interfering in other peoples lives with what they are doing.
