This really just confuses me. I mean...I know ppl make horrible decisions and regret it later, but how can somebody just not know this isn't okay??? Let's see - hitting..or not doing it. I learned not to do that in what, preschool?

Wish I had protection growing up because I was beat with a double razor strap regularly for years. The video brought back those memories, but I've since forgiven my grandmother for what she did and have moved on.

I'm so sorry. I too have horrible memories...unfortunately some are much worse than the video...it was really hard to watch. I too have forgiven my mother and step-father. I'll never understand it though and wish I could forget it all together.

as a child who was spanked by her parents including with a leather belt i do not EVER remember them cursing at me once and it never hurt and it was one swat on the butt and that was all it ever was. my dad was not nearly like that, he gave me a quick swat maybe two max with no words and that was that. mom has used the belt or hand on my hiney as well but it was never like that. no cursing, no screaming, didn't hurt that much just a quick little sting. i can't imagine being beaten to death like she was and at 16 years old a person is far too old to be spanked anymore and it's not abuse. i was spanked maybe to about 8 years old off and on, after i was old enough they never spanked at all but began to ground us or take things away.

so yes i'm in favor of a spanking, but NOT a beating as was shown here. this is not discipline this is abuse in full form.

I hope my edit makes sense, i was saying that at 16 any form of hitting is abusive because the child is far too old to need spankings. but no matter what a child should never be hit like that. a spanking isn't done out of rage and anger and constant hitting. a spanking is a quick once or twice and it's over with thing. it's an attention grabber not a hitting, beating, screaming and cursing thing. poor girl that is just awful what she endured and i would never forgive my mother if she had allowed that kind of abuse to happen to me. thank God my parents always knew the difference between a loving spanking to show discipline and beating and abusing for what looks like sheer enjoyment in the video.

I saw a brief clip of the judge on T.V. and he fully admits it was him in the video. He claimed he was rightly punishing her for stealing (she was downloading music or something similar from the internet). Now, I am a huge supporter of spanking and completely believe we'd be better off if more parents these days spanked. That said, spanking a 16 year old is NEVER appropriate. I also think that one does not need a weapon to "spank" their child. At that point, IMHO, it rises to the level of abuse. Having been raised in an abusive environment, I can tell you that the abusive words inflict more long lasting damage than any beatings ever could. I hope both parents in this case get just what they deserve.

i agree those cursing words were almost as strong as that belt lashing her. and that at 16 there is no reason for a spanking and especially not as many beatings as she received from him at one time and over nothing important. it's not like she did anything that most teens haven't done. maybe take her computer away or monitor her use on there. there was no reason to be hitting her at all.

Just goes to show you never know people. Judges don't beat their kids, cops don't beat their wives, celebrities don't kill their spouses, and priest don't rape children...and certainly the nice neighbor you live next door to that always waves and picks up your mail when you're on vacation, would never do any of the above, right? You never know what someone is like behind closed doors and you never know what the people you think you know, actually live with. I don't believe there is any animal on the planet sicker than a human.

you know on that note a very well known dr who just happened to be my MIL's gynocologist was caught by my FIL (police officer) in a sting operation to catch homosexuals acting in public bathrooms at a local park nearby a playground...

so it's true you just never know who is behind those fronts people put on every single day in your world.

I'm sorry for my words, But he is an a**hole. I do not consider him a father or a judge. He is low being that should be punished to the highest degree. Because of his standing in the community he should be setting an example not destroying a child. I am so disgusted.

Advertisements are claiming the judge and daughter are going to be on the Dr. Phil show tomorrow. I'll probably be setting my DVR. I don't know though. It just nauseates me.
