Lol. Jackson was with me today all day running my errands and dog walks. He was fine though. It was definitely not as bad in the car. He kind of acted a little weird beforehand though, almost like he was sensing something. His ears were all perked up.

That was crazy though! My grandma works in the hospital and said the whole building was shaking and it looked like the buildings were swaying. Everyone ran out of my mom's salon too. My dad said he was in the Verizon store and the girls behind the counter were all screaming saying the building was collapsing and he ran out of there so fast and saw the street/parking lot shaking too!

That really does sound scary. So glad everyone and Jackson and the other dogs okay and nothing really bad happened. I heard on CNN the geological society odds say a temblor of this magnitude where it occurred has odds of at least 1 death, if I understood their weatherman right. I hope the eastcoast residents beat the odds!

Max and Teddy were scared stiff, I think. They focused on me intently, waiting to see how I would react. Normally Max would bark to alert me.

Glad to hear your family is okay too. I know we are laughing about it, but there was some damage -- a building down in Culpeper sent someone to the hospital. The epicenter, Mineral, sustained more damage. Mineral is only 35 south of us and home to the nuclear plant.

There is a very major fault line that runs right up the east coast and through NYC which is as long and large as the San Andrea's fault line here in CA., so now is the time for all east coast folks to stock non perishable foods, battery powered radio's, flashlights, first aid kits and needed items for the dogs, (plus lots of batteries) water, candles, portable gas stoves with fuel and so on.
Don't stay in the house or building during the tremors. Get outside (sit down) and away from any tall structure's to ride it out.
If you have gas lines in your home, (going to the stove, water heater and such) check them after the quake by adding some dish soap to a little water and rub over the connections. If you see bubbles, then you have a leak and need to call the gas company. Please stay safe you guys. We will be keeping a close eye on all of you out east.

I thought going outside, away from tall structures is best. My only fear here is that we can't get away from the native trees, some of which are over 100 feet tall.

I think they were saying on CNN that Dept. of Homeland Security was very sad because all of the people rushed outside where they could be hurt by falling things. I'm pretty sure I heard them say that all should have stayed inside under anything braced.

It does depend what kind of structure you are in and what is outside. If you are in a really old rowhouse, you should risk running outside. If you are in a well-constructed building, then it is probably better to stay indoors.

I know a CNN reporter said that they were all in the building, felt the quake and all went outside and the expert commenting chided her for leaving the building. Then she reported on Dept. Homeland Security response to everyone going outside. And the anchor on CNN told the reporter something like "rookie mistake" and the woman just smiled self-consciously. The anchor was talking about the need to educate New Yorkers in what to do from now on. I think my response would be to try to get outside, too, though. I happened to be getting into my car after visiting my mom in a rehab. Hospital in Catskill,NY. The car was shaking and I thought someone was jumping on the bumper. I made a call on the phone about 3 minutes
later so when i checked the phone it was when all the action was taking place. I have never felt an earthquake before so thought it was a gust of wind that had caused it. No damage noted.
