While good for Hef, the women he uses in his magazine are an exaggerated notion of perfection. Not all Playboy readers are men. Many girls aspire to be in those types of magazines. While his move is good for men, I feel it is a lost cause to try to change the industry as far as women are concerned.

I know, not saying he did anything to help womens self esteem, he protected men. Seriously, I can't stand the fact that many girls think it's an honor to be in the magazine, I'm only saying that he was correct in not reminding men of all their imperfections. Women have never had a publication that did that. You're right, it's probably a lost cause, I mean I even love to read about how I can improve, but I think more can be done to make young women feel that they are more than just their looks.

I think in cosmestics you shouldn't have to airbrush stuff, after all you are selling how this product properly applied can enhance/change your looks.

Why is it such a crime for women to grow older?? Man... I don't get it! It happens, it's natural..... we all don't stay young forever! Julia is beautiful still, yes she is older, yes she has fine lines and wrinkles... everyone does! ggeezzzzz

Does anyone remember the "More" magazine issue with Jamie Lee Curtis a few years ago? When they asked to feature her in the issue, she said "yes," but she insisted that there would be NO airbrushing and NO makeup. She wanted them to show her just as she was, like a normal woman, saddlebags (OK there were barely any), cellulite, skin flaws and all. Her point was that nobody was perfect and to show other women that they were OK, too, no matter what their flaws were, just love yourself as you are. It caused a really big stir and she got a phenomenal response from women from all over the world.

I can't find anything on More about it, but here is one picture from the shoot that was in the magazine in an article in USA Today:

I remember that, at the time I was kind of shocked at how much she had let herself go! I remember her from the movie Perfect, and this is the way she looked: Image9.jpg I was a little disappointed that she kind of gave up on herself. After hearing her story, the body she had was kind of an accident, she really never worked for it, just good genes, and she didn't really care about hair, makeup, and clothes. So, my brain's really been messed with, I think we shouldn't have to go for perfection, but a little struggling for beauty can be fun. I would like companies to show realistic results of what their products can do, and then I can decide if it's worth it.

Eh, I don't know. Basically every picture in every magazine is airbrushed. It's completely normal and not uncommon in Hollywood. It sucks but it's the way it is. If they ban this one, why not ban ALL advertisements with models? Because they are ALL airbrushed.

This photo doesn't look *extremely* airbrushed to me or anything. She still looks like the same person.

But I agree, Julia is gorgeous without it!

I can't comment on all weight loss ads, but I can give you my personal experience with Nutrisystem.

In 2006, I lost 85 lbs on Nutrisystem, and in 2007 they asked me to participate in one of their photo shoots.

I had become a runner, and had been wearing tank tops that had a shoulder that was about 3" wide. My natural skin color is pretty pasty, so my tan line was a stark contrast to the skin next to it. They chose a tank top for me to wear that had a shoulder that was only about 1 and 1/2" wide, and the tan line was way too obvious.

I casually mentioned that they could just fix it in the pictures, after all, it was just a tan line. They about flipped, and said that they couldn't do ANY retouching on the photos, they had to use them exactly as they came out. They solved the problem by putting a tan foundation makeup in an airbrush, and they airbrushed ME to fill in and hide the line.

So I can't speak for all of them, but when you see their ads, I am confident that you are seeing something that has not been touched up.

Wow! That's great! I'm glad to know they stay true to the results their product yields, too.

I was referring to the model/actress/singer they photo shop/airbrush for the ads, articles, etc. I remember last year on one of the Kardashian shows Kourtney was working out like crazy because she didn't want to have them airbrush her 'thinner' in the pic.

And some of them when they say a celeb is too skinny it's obvious they've messed with it, the stomach etc. is all pixalated(?), just looks impossible to be true. Seems they can wave a magic wand, err, mouse for good & evil.
