Really??? So what did you think? I absolutely LOVE Hendrix. I've been dreaming of getting my hands of a jacket like his too. May I ask, how old are you that you hadn't ever heard his songs? I was born way after he died, but still growing up his songs were on tv commercials, in movies, etc. Have you seen Wayne's World? Tia Carerre's character sings a few of his songs in the movie, and also they use his "Foxy Lady" song in there too. ‪Waynes World Foxy lady English (hd)‬‏ - YouTube It starts about halfway through, at the juke box. LOL this movie was so funny.

I am 21...but I was born in Taiwan and came to US when I was 8...maybe that's why I never heard his songs? I've heard his name plenty of times (I know he was an amazing guitarist), especially during guitar class in HS. I have never heard of Wayne's World as well...lol hehe I don't listen to music as much these days, but back in HS, I listened to a lot of "cRAP" Back then, it's the beats, now, it's the lyrics. I don't think his music is my taste...an example of music that I absolutely love is Micheal Jackson's songs.

Michael had some mean military jackets as well! But I agree, I don't listen to too much modern music. I like classic rock, big band, classical, 60s soul, which was what drew me to Amy Winehouse in the first place, very 60s girl group inspired music. She had some great lyrics too.

I don't mean to sound like a know-it-all, but are you sure that version of "American Woman" is Hendrix? I believe it is Lenny Kravitz doing his version and it was featured in the second Austin Powers movie. The Guess Who did the original back in the early '70s.

You are right. That was the one that came up when I did the youtube search. I was always told it was a Jimmy Hendrix song... so much for my musical knowledge. It's still a great song, though.

You know, IMO, Lenny has always had a Hendrix/Sly Stone fixation in his musical style (lucky for us!) so it is very easy to mistake this song for Jimi's.

Haha I didn't even bother to watch the video bc I already knew the song. I know Lenny's version too. I heard that Lenny wanted to play Jimi in a movie, but the producers wanted Andre 3000 instead. I think Andre is a better fit as far as looks, plus I don't think I've ever seen Lenny act. I wonder what ever happened to that project? I've been waiting years to hear anything new about it.

I am just saying, I don't like to be too quick to judge a person's situation, famous or not. You just never know any situation and I think, no matter what caused the death, it's still terribly sad.

I think it's such a selfish act to commit suicide. But it doesn't take the pain away from the family or take away the fact that a death is sad.
Sometimes a person feels THAT depressed (which, is a disease, and often is hard to control) in order to commit such an act. But I am not going to judge them because they messed up and made a terrible mistake.

People to turn to drugs for all kinds of reasons. I have never tried drugs, nor do I have any desire to, and I don't necessarily have respect for those who walk around drugged up all the time and just don't care about anything. But at the same time, these people are human beings with obvious problems who are not getting the help or support they need, and to not value a human life (however messed up that human may have been) is sad, IMO.

I do agree that it is a sad situation. But she created it for herself. Coming from a mother with 4 children, 21,20,16,and 13, I have been drilling my kids that drugs are bad... forever. I don't change my position, she chose to take drugs no one held a gun to her head. Now she needs more and more and look what happened. She should have never had that first one. Sorry still don't feel bad. I feel bad for people who have a disease, or die in an accident. A drug overdose is just plain stupidity and she never should have started doing it period. Obviously they don't care enough about themselves or the people who love them, to not start doing it in the first place.

I'm not sure how they would know that. The autopsy isn't scheduled until Monday morning and toxicology results can take a while to come back.

RIP Amy. Just because she had money and resources to get help doesn't make it any easier. An addiction is an addiction, no matter how rich nor poor. Maybe she did not have the family support or the support of friends. Often, the richest celebrities are the loneliest. They also are the ones most surrounded by enablers who will feed into their addiction simply because of who they are. You can't hold that against them. She made many mistakes in her life and obviously paid the ultimate price.
