This is truely sad. I was a BIG fan. And this took me by surprise, I think I'm the only one. Maybe I was oblivious or took her addiction for granted, but It never crossed my mind that she was in that deep and she would actually DIE. I've seen regular, homeless addicts bounce back....so i assumed she would to, being a celebrity. Such a waste of talent!

@Sugarmamma....on the contrary she was very pretty when she 1st debut in 2003. when she came out again....she lost so much weight and a lot of teeth. :(

She WAS pretty....her most recent pictures, however, could have been actually taken in a morgue. She looked like the walking dead :eek:

Sorry I don't agree and I don't feel bad. She had money and many resources to get help. She chose not to. Everyone knew that this was going to happen and many are not surprised. Where were all the people that "love" her and "care" for her. Why didn't they step in? She was so strung up on drugs and alcohol that she had to cancel her last concert because she was slurring and wobbling all over he place. I wouldn't give her a dime to see her sing. And she comes out with a song called rehab and she is a hero. She glorified the fact that she wouldn't go into rehab.

Sorry I don't feel bad at all. I do feel bad about the fact that it is just such a waste.

To be honest, I didn't know she was all that popular. I only knew of her 'Rehab' song and that was it. Didn't know much else about her other than remembering people thought she was going to die a few years ago or something.

RIP Amy. Just because she had money and resources to get help doesn't make it any easier. An addiction is an addiction, no matter how rich nor poor. Maybe she did not have the family support or the support of friends. Often, the richest celebrities are the loneliest. They also are the ones most surrounded by enablers who will feed into their addiction simply because of who they are. You can't hold that against them. She made many mistakes in her life and obviously paid the ultimate price.

Brian Jones was 27 too. Sorry to hear about AW, but not totally shocked.

While I do agree with you...she made a choice and some choices have very serious consequences. She chose to start drugs. She chose to continue taking drugs until she was addicted and couldn't stop. Now everyone is all feeling sorry for her. Every time I ever saw her on TV she always looked strung out. Just like Anna Nicole Smith. I mean really was anyone really surprised that she died of a drug overdose?? Not me!!
These people made a choice to take drugs and they paid the price. I don't feel bad at all.

I am just saying, I don't like to be too quick to judge a person's situation, famous or not. You just never know any situation and I think, no matter what caused the death, it's still terribly sad.

I think it's such a selfish act to commit suicide. But it doesn't take the pain away from the family or take away the fact that a death is sad.
Sometimes a person feels THAT depressed (which, is a disease, and often is hard to control) in order to commit such an act. But I am not going to judge them because they messed up and made a terrible mistake.

People to turn to drugs for all kinds of reasons. I have never tried drugs, nor do I have any desire to, and I don't necessarily have respect for those who walk around drugged up all the time and just don't care about anything. But at the same time, these people are human beings with obvious problems who are not getting the help or support they need, and to not value a human life (however messed up that human may have been) is sad, IMO.

I had really hoped Ms. Winehouse would pull through so she could be added to the list of survivers. Almost four years clean, and I lost a lot from substance abuse. I truly hope this young woman can find the peace she has been seeking.

Her rehab song came out a long time ago, she was singing about her life, many artists do that, she says in the song, "They want me to go to rehab, but 'daddy' says I'm fine." This "Daddy" she sang about was probably a boyfriend codependent drug user. I don't think anyone saw her as a "hero." She actually did go to rehab in May of this year, but rehab usually takes several attempts before it clicks in. The rich and famous have an even more difficult time getting off drugs, there are too many people who will enable them. The poor usually just have family who will enable them. A drug addict needs his little "Renfield" to keep them from facing reality. I understand how you feel, but you really don’t understand the nature of addiction. Your brain wants these chemicals and screws up your thinking. Addicts take drugs because they want to feel better, and this is a very natural thing to want to feel better. Even if they feel better for just a few minutes they think it’s worth it.

Amy Winehouse had songs much better that "rehab", it's just that radio/tv producers wanted to push that as her first single. The first time I heard that song I didn't care for it either.

There have been many very talented people in history who have gone far too young due to addictions, mental illness, etc. Van Gogh for example. Drunk on absinthe all the time. Jackson Pollock. Even Kevyn Aucoin the makeup artist died from Tylenol poisoning. Actually a lot of true artists/musicians I often times think they must have been high to come up with something that magical. But some people have real demons that they can't deal with, and they look for something to help. Some go to the doctor, some self medicate. While unfortunately some self medication can usually lead to self destruction. But there are some drugs that are legal and some are not, and we all know even the legal ones are dangerous.

Have you ever taken drugs? Have you ever been in such a mental state that you felt this was the only way? If not then I am very happy for you, but for many people, including myself, at the time, it feels like there is no other choice. Unless you have been there, you do not know. That place is very dark, scary, and lonely. Just like someone who has an eating disorder, it is something that you live with and deal with for the rest of your life.

If you truly didn't care why did you even bother to post in this thread? I read tons of threads on YT and other forums all the time that I don't feel I have anything substantial to add, so I skip it. I don't go posting "ah I don't care about this subject".

Well said! Addiction is a difficult battle. It's like taking drugs because you're suffering from chronice pain, well, with substance abuse, it's often used to fill an emotional void. Emotional pain is just as painful as physical pain, may be worst. Neuroscience have found that both physical and emotional pain activates the same pathway. ;)

I wasn't a fan, but sorry to hear of her death. I believe that celebs have easier access to drugs if they want them... $ is no object for them and I think we would all be suprised how many of our fav celebs do drugs. :(
