| Veneers? Hi - Just wondering if anyone has gotten veneers? If so, what was your experience like with the temporary ones?

| My 2 dental assistant friends advised me to stay away from the veneers.

| Yes, because they have to shave down part of your teeth to get the veneers on OR the veneers will look really thick. I would only consider this if I had horribly disfigured teeth and even then, would give it a lot of thought.

| Sorry! I should have clarified why I was asking. I currently have temporary veneers on my 4 front teeth while I am waiting for my permanent ones to come back from lab in 2 weeks. I wanted to know if anyone had veneers and what their experience was like with the temporaries (I heard the temporaries often come loose). Anyway, I do not have terribly disfigured teeth - definitely not my reason for getting them. When I was a child I got into an accident on my bike with a car and cracked my two front teeth in half. After getting an intense root canal I had a cap put on one tooth and had the other tooth bonded. I was never happy with the appearance of my two front teeth because they were not symetrical and were big compared to the rest of my teeth but at least they were straight! So I saved up and I recently went to a well known cosmetic dentist and had a consultation. Basically together we decided to veneer the front 4 in order to make my smile the way I invisioned. My front teeth were in good shape so I did not need a crown or anything like that and veneers were the best option for me. I got my teeth bleeched (minus the front 4) and got my temporary veneers put on earlier this week. I am nervous because I heard that the temporary ones are known to fall off since they don't cememnt them to your teeth. And my friends wedding is next weekend and the last thing I need is a temporary tooth falling off! ekk! So - that is why I was wondering if anyone had an experience with temps. Sorry for not explaining my situation clearly before

| Sounds like the perfect reason for getting them. My best friend got veneers a few years ago because of a bone thing that had to be fixed near the roots of her front teeth so they got damaged. She was pretty freaked out about the temporary ones also but she had no problems at all with them. I would talk to the dentist and ask if there's a temporary solution to reapplying them just in case they do come loose. I know my friend and I joked about it - her's falling off in public. It was worse case scenario and it would NOT have been funny if it happened but it all worked out fine for her. But no, I would not recommend veneers for anyone unless they were in a situation like your's. That's why we must take care of our teeth the very best we can! But accidents do happen and luckily there are fixes for something like that. Not cheap though!

| I was joking around with my boyfriend about that but that would definitely NOT be funny if it really did happen. I am going in to the dentist on Thursday so they can make sure the temps are secure before I leave for my friends wedding...just to be on the safe side! I'll post the before and after pics once I get them done!

| Just be sure you're happy with them. My friend was/is really not happy with hers after all this time.... they are too big and too thick. She's actually getting them redone/replaced soon. She had to have some more oral surgery last week so it was a good time to replace the veneers now too. She can afford this without blinking an eye though.... they are definitely not cheap so that's why I say make sure you're happy with them.

| I got four veeners several years ago because I had a small crack running up one of my front teeth. I would NEVER recommend getting them. I hate them. My tongue is ALWAYS rubbing the back of my front teeth and has caused the two front teeth to start moving outward. I knew the teeth would be shaved down but when I saw the result (picket fence) I wanted to die. I have always had a nice smile. I am really sorry I did the veeners. I hope you have better results with yours.

| I hate mine too! Worst thing I ever did, they are sensitive and bother the hell out of me!! The temps were fine if thats what your asking and they never fell off, however I am wondering why its taken so long, I had mine back in less then 10 days!! I really hate them and it cost me 5 grand. I had a similar accident when I was in middle school , I fell on a jungle gym and cracked 3 front teeth, I had bondings etc... To be honest I like the " new" way they do bonding and wish I had gone that route!

| I have a veneer on my one front tooth. I never had a problem with the temp and I never had a problem with the permanent veneer, which I have had for 20+ years. The tooth was NOT shaved down...I got the veneer because that one tooth was slightly recessed in comparison to its mate.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I tend to like the look of well done veneers, but after reading this thread, yikes.

| I like the look of well done veneers as well. It is like any cosmetic procedure. Some people in the end are happy with their results while others are not. I guess not everyone has the same experience. Like any other cosmetic procedure, I think several factors come into play with making the decision to get them. For me, it was the best decision based off of my teeth.
