Sounds like the perfect reason for getting them. My best friend got veneers a few years ago because of a bone thing that had to be fixed near the roots of her front teeth so they got damaged. She was pretty freaked out about the temporary ones also but she had no problems at all with them. I would talk to the dentist and ask if there's a temporary solution to reapplying them just in case they do come loose. I know my friend and I joked about it - her's falling off in public. It was worse case scenario and it would NOT have been funny if it happened but it all worked out fine for her.
But no, I would not recommend veneers for anyone unless they were in a situation like your's. That's why we must take care of our teeth the very best we can! But accidents do happen and luckily there are fixes for something like that. Not cheap though!
