Woman in another forum made me want to... The forum name will remain nameless, although I'm SURE you can figure out what forum it is by the conversation. I really REALLY wish I could see this woman face to face, because she must be a very UGLY HUMAN BEING This is what she said... Originally Posted by ... when i see a girl with a fake bag, i like to be rude and say outloud "you know, i've got that same bag, only it is real...i'll sell it to you for $400..." knowing that they can't even afford 400 since they are carrying a fake.. lol..i know, i'm terrible.... And I of course had to write back... Do you think those that cannot "afford $400" are somehow beneath you? I'm not exactly sure what your problem is, but there isn't enough money in the world that would EVER make me want to have your attitude. If you get satisfaction from uttering such pretentious statements, then you must live a very empty life. I know that it is hypocritical of me to be judgmental of her in return...but I just cannot help it. I read a lot of pretentious things on that forum all the time, but this one just pissed me off to NO END! Sorry I'm done with my rant... |
It's always weird to me when people are more concerned with the external than the internal. But then again, I suppose something awful may have happened to them in order for them to be stuck in their growth...which can be tough to move through. Pretentiousness stinks, doesn't it? It's sometimes those who cannot afford luxury items who seem the most concerned with them . When you can afford them, they kinda lose much of their appeal, ya know? |
I have always felt that people that have it, don't flaunt it. I think people that maybe have never had anything and maybe come into money someway or have ended up making good on their jobs, whatever, do not have to brag. I know people and have friends that have money and they are never braggers. They don't have too.!!!! Sorry she made you feel that way. People can be terrible at times. They act like first graders. |
Well, I've never been one to follow all the designer names and the coach purses that I do have are hand-me-downs from my sister. lol I tell her all the time that the most expensive purse I have ever paid for was $80 (15 years ago) and I still think about it. lol I suppose to some money is not an object but it certainly should never make you feel superior if you do have it to spend. |
You're so right on - but unfortunately you see that in all kinds of forums. Someone thinks their car is better, their shoes are better because they have "red soles" - even their dogs are better because they're "standard"(or tiny, or whatever). It doesn't make us like/love what we have any less. Those types of people don't take hints so I don't even waste my time on them. If we let them get to us they get they attention they crave. Your comeback was awesome though!;) "The key to happiness is wanting what you have - not having what you want" |
Wow!! Did not read the thread - nor do I care to, but that is just childish. |
I don't have a problem with people THINKING that they are better than everyone else because they have designer items. That is their prerogative, their life, and quite frankly as they say, what somebody else thinks of you, is not your business! What I DO have a problem with are people that intentionally do/say things to hurt someone else's feelings. THAT I do have an issue with, because you never know what kind of an effect your words can have on another person. |

Smoke and mirrors I'm sure. |
If that person is looking to costly things to give her self-worth or make her life more meaningful, she sure is in for a very rude awakening one day, isn't she? |
I agree. |

Oh also...does anyone feel like the desire for 'stuff' is more satisfying than the actual stuff itself? I've bought a few expensive items here and there, and I find it so anti-climactic once I have them. As in, I thought it would "feel" more gratifying. Now, I'm really more satisfied about thinking about the item, rather than actually having it. The only exception is if I reallllllly want something for a very extended time, then maybe; still, usually kinda anti-climactic. I will say the expensive thing I *love* is my engagement ring and wedding band. I look at it every day and it never seems anti-climactic. It represents something meaningful too. |

I have read the articles about the children who make the fake bags and I will say this...I have a huge purse collection, none of them are fake, and I think only 2 of them are brand new...I would rather buy an authenticated, used, real purse than a brand new fake purse anyday of the week. Call me what you want but that's how I feel about fake bags. I don't neccessarily see a fake bag as a reflection on the person carrying it...I see it as an opportunity to educate if the person is willing to listen...although with some it doesn't matter. |
I have never been a "material" kind of person. I am happiest with things that money can't buy like my family and the love of animals. With that said, I hold my camera and my scrapbooks the closest to me because they are what has recorded my memories. I am just a simple person, but saying that, I do not judge others for the way they spend their money on "things" if that's what is important to them. When people start to judge others based on their material assets or what they carry, I simply say, "things are not always as it appears" and leave it at that. |

I feel sorry for the person who said. She obviously thinks you have to carry a $400 purse to be worthwhile. Im glad I dont think that way and I can spend my money on what I want or save it or do what I want with it. I feel that way about cars and clothes and alot of things. I dont buy into designer and I think Im able to do more with my money because of it and I dont have false pride. |
Listen..... I love designer things. When I can afford it I get them and it makes me happy - but that's me. Whatever makes you happy. I would not be happy driving around in a Kia either. But with that said, I never look down on anyone for driving one or for buying imitation designer things and I should not be belittled for my taste either. |
I will also like to add another point about child labor, even though I'm sure that I will get tomatoes thrown at me... Every single developed country (i.e., United States, Western Europe, etc) engaged in child labor during the Industrial Revolution. Child labor laws developed only after these countries were in good enough economic standing to afford protecting children. No other country interfered with enforcing child protection laws, in fact every developing country did it at its own pace. The countries that are now engaged in child labor are now in a similar process where they are undergoing their own Industrial Revolution and are following the steps of other currently developed nations. I know that it sounds absolutely awful, but it is not right to interfere with the economic progress of other countries, simply because we can. In fact, I was forced to watch a documentary on child labor in my economics class and one country that banned child labor in order to appease Western nations is now the country with THE HIGHEST LEVELS OF CHILD PROSTITUTION. Look, I am not saying that it is right to allow children to work in factories, but to take away the choice to work in a factory, is FORCING children into prostitution as the only alternative to make money, eat and survive If given the chance, these countries will go through the same process as other countries and they will develop economically, and eradicate child labor in their own timeline, just like we did. In the mean time, I don't think we should force other countries to end child labor. Please take the time to think about what I've posted, and do your own research about child prostitution. If you were in their shoes, what would you choose? |

Perception is everything...If that was a Paddington, Prada or other expensive bag she was carring and someone offered her the real thing for $400.... I woudn't think of that as an ugly person. ;) More like: CA CHING!!!! AND hit the next ATM. Maybe that person couldn't afford the $12-$15, 000 price tag, but could possibly afford the $400:) "real thing"... JUST SAYING |

I love what you said. Why have so much of yourself rapped up in material things that can come and go. |

I hold my family and dogs closest to my heart.....I've had designer this and that, but I usually buy what I like not because of the tag. My dogs own a LV & Beverly Hills Mutt Carriers (which I value because it was gifted to me by the family that has one of my pups). But, the one carrier I value the most was given to me by Sunnie as a thank you gift for mentoring me, that's what makes it valuable.... As far as the Coach this, LV, Hermes, geez everyone owns them now....If I was gonna buy designer, it would something that not everyone had and more than likely an Italian Designer....I prefer not following the crowd and setting my own style... That being said it's just stuff.....people are what count. |
I do love branded stuff because it lasts for a while but i would NEVER say anything to anyone even if i knew they were carrying a fake. That is just so hurtful :( people ugh!! i think our dogs are more sensible then some of em!! |
