| ♪♥ Jazi & Izi's Mom ♥♫ Donating Member | This breaks my heart. Just as bad as a deadbeat parent. I could never imagine giving up my babies...fur OR skin. I couldn't let a day go by without seeing ALL their faces or hearing their voices.

| I feel bad for little dogs because I always feel that (most NOT ALL) people pick a small dog because he/she is cute not ever thinking of the hard work you have to put into raising one. Sure they're the first ones to get adopted, but sometimes not by the best families

I think it's sad someone would actually consider giving up the child for the dog. Really-- if the situation really was "either/or" are you saying you would give up your child over the dog????

That's ridiculous. There would be no either/or situation because they would BOTH be my kids How can I give one up? Let's say, for arguments sake, that my human child were so allergic that his life would be threaten...I would move heaven and earth first before I even thought of giving up my fur-baby to an uncertain future. I doubt it very much that that was the case for the person who gave up the little Maltese. I would say that her case was the typical one, inconvenience, that's all. And there is that "just a dog" insinuation again. You'll never understand what I mean.

I'm not sure how I missed this part of your post to begin with but somehow I did. I'd love to know what rescue this woman got this Maltese from and why she didn't return the dog to them Reputable rescues have a clause in their adoption contract that you need to return the dog to them if you are ever not able to take care of the pup. This leads me to wonder if the rescue has been notified of the surrender. Is the little girl microchipped? She should be scanned and the rescue should be notified immediately that the dog is in their possession. The rescue will come and pick her up. It is a very serious matter when a rescue is turned into a shelter and they are not notified this was done by the adoptee. Patti, do you know if they have the name of the rescue or if the dog is chipped? This woman had no business dropping this dog off like she did !

| It is sad but she will be adopted quickly and start a new life. I would love to have a maltese.

| Oh, that is so sad. I had a beautiful Maltese; he was my very first dog of my own. I agree that she should have returned the dog to the rescue as opposed to dropping her off at a shelter???

She may have moved heaven and earth, one doesn't know her situation...seems silly to judge someone without knowing their particulars. She may have just summed up her story regarding the new baby without feeling the need to tell the shelter people the other details. Maybe the dog was biting/attacking the baby. I'd like to know what rescue would give a dog away with issues as that is just begging to have the dog returned or given away. Did they tell her prior that the dog had issues (which most likely why it ended up as a rescue in the first place) or did they play down the issues? There is much we don't know and will never know so rather than judging someone why not just say there's a maltese with issues now available for someone who wants such a dog.

| I for one am glad the dog was taken somewhere instead of being with someone that is not willing or is capable of giving him a chance. I bet the dog will be happier with the new owners.

As for you quoting my posts I am totally confused. There are plenty of other members that made much more harsh statements than mine.

Which was what I was basically saying...good the dog went somewhere - and that the person had the courage to admit they couldn't handle the dog and took it where it might stand a chance of a happier life than they could give it. Commendable in light of the situation. A lesser person might have just dropped it off by the roadside or ignored and neglected it, which is likely to happen more often if those who do choose to take a dog to a shelter are judged and berated for doing so.
