| Totally frustrated - car shopping I am soooo frustrated. My spring break is over and all I have done is look for a car. I am no where closer to getting one than I was last Friday. I DON'T want to spend an arm and a leg for a used car. I sold mine last Thursday, and I don't have a ride. Twice this week I have had to get up at 2:00 a.m. to take hubby to work so I would have his truck to use. I don't know what I'll do if I don't find one by the weekend. I had a Toyota Avalon...was tired of the high payment and wanted something cheaper and a little better on gas. I am stuck on wanting a used (08-10) Nissan Altima...and there are none out there for as cheap as I want to pay....ha ha. 3 weeks ago there were plenty, but with gas prices going up...so are the prices of the cheap cars. Just had to vent...Maybe tomorrow will be better

| Good Luck! I am the worst car shopper on the planet- I will walk in and just take whatever is there at whatever price they offer it for. I actually took my mom this time because she is good at "dealing" with people- she drives a hard bargain! I got a Jetta- I love it

| Hope you find what you want at a price you can afford. But whatever you do before you put down any money, have a mechanic check the car out with a test drive etc. Remember used car sales are "as is" - unless you get a written guarantee. I know, I watch too many of the judge shows

| Yeah....usually I just see what I want and buy it. This time I drove several makes and models before deciding what I wanted. Now that I know the car I want, I don't want to pay that much. Ugh!!! If only I would have been ready to buy a few weeks ago. Had the same car everywhere for a few thousand less

| Good Luck! Try looking for an 08 Civic. I had an 08 Civic and was pleased with all it offered and the gas mileage was great. But I do a lot of highway driving and the pickup was not enough for me. I had to turn off the AC to accelerate onto the highway. However if I did not do a lot of highway driving I would have kept it, it was a great car! I traded it in for an 07 V6 Accord. I LOVE this car, but the gas mileage does leave a bit to be desired over my Civic.

OP, it takes a while to find a quality used car. So far, my family has scrimped and saved to buy new cars because we didn't want to inherit other people's problems. We did end up buying a used car for my little brother, he simply couldn't wait any longer. We were aiming for a 04 Si (he liked the look) but we ended up buying a 2000 Civic Dx. The engine was amazingly great, low miles, and the mpg makes the rest of us jealous. It had a few cosmetic problems that were inexpensive to fix. We went in with a car in mind and ended up with something better. Sometimes all you have to do is keep an open mind.

| Good luck, I just bought a hyundi accent 2003 and I LOVE it, I Found one that an old man had, that didn't have much mileage on it. I hated car shopping, so best of luck.

| Ok all. I worked at a car lot for 14 years. I don't work there now; however, I still know the game. On a used car there is room for them to come down on the price. Don't let them lie to you. Salesmen are good at making it sound real. And trust me, the car was NOT a 90 year old woman's car that only drove it to the grocery store. They probably don't even know who traded it in. But seriously, if they have one you like try getting the price down. There is usually a thousand or two to play with. Good luck! PS. I have an Accord and I love it.

| Lots of dealers just buy their used cars at auctions. The cars come from all over the country, too. So, you want to be sure to look up the history for that particular VIN number and see if there are any accidents on record for it, etc. You can do that through carfax.

| I hope you find your car soon. My Husband drives a cargo van to work in and with these gas prices hes considering getting a smaller more economical vehicle also
