| Skunk!!! Ugh...... our pregnant Aussie, Stormie, was sprayed last night. She must have been right up on that skunk because it got her right on her chest.... you could see a huge yellow circle on her white chest fur. Oh my word did it stink!! I did call my vet just to make double-sure this wouldn't harm the puppies and he didn't even laugh at that question. I told him that I didn't have any tomato juice at home but he said he actually thinks that vinegar/water mixture works better. So my husband scrubbed her chest down with that to get the oily stuff off and then followed up with a Dawn wash. I didn't get close enough to her this morning to get a whiff but am hoping that it's significantly better tonight. Her and her son, Blaze, are outside dogs (we live on quite a few acres) but this weekend we were planning on moving her inside for a full bath and to get settled into her whelping area - puppies are due around the 15th. Now I hope that she doesn't stink up the bathroom when I get her wet again. As I said... UGH!

| Don't you just hate skunks? We had a family move in to a dirt hill just behind our house when we built it, and had them coming up to the door. My little Min Pin at the time decided to get up close and personal. There is a recipe for removal that works pretty good, it has peroxide, dawn dishsoap and baking soda. You could do a google search if you still need it. It definitely takes the burn out of the smell but does leave a faint odor. How exciting to be expecting babies. My dd wants an Aussie so bad!!

Very much hate skunks!! But it's not uncommon to at least get a whiff of one in the area every so often when you live in the country. I know Stormie seriously regrets getting close to that skunk last night. She looked so sad when we were trying not to gag around her. I just really hope she's okay to bring in the house this weekend. And yes, we are VERY excited about this litter. It's her second one and she was such an awesome mommy the first time. Her and the stud come from some amazing stockdog lines and we already have a full waiting list.... hoping she has enough pups to satisfy everyone. We even sold two to an exhibitioner in Germany last year. It's very exciting to watch her pups grow in the herding/exhibitioning world.

| Just realized you are in Kansas. That's where our stud lives. We are in Texas so it was a 12 hour one way drive for us to take her there and then go pick her up later but if you are ever seriously in the market for one I could put you in touch with our stud's owner.

| Oh my, I worry about that every time I let Murfee out after dark. I always turn on the light and look and sniff before letting him out. We have had several in our back yard.....we live in the country too. Good luck

| Thanks. I'm hoping that what my vet told me to do plus the fact that she's airing out outside does the trick because I really wanted to bring her inside this weekend to prepare for the puppies. Maybe it helps that the spray was very concentrated on one area of her body and we can tell that we got it all off (at least the color is all gone). Got my fingers crossed that she's better when I get home. I just know from my mom's experience once before that when we get her wet again (for her pre-birth bath) that we'll probably be able to smell it again. Ugh!

| Here is a really good recipe to wash the pet in to get rid of the skunk smell: 1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide 1/4 cup baking soda 1 teaspoon liquid soap Soak the dog with water and then work the solution into a thick lather on the dog. Leave the lather on for 3 to 5 minutes and then rinse off. Make certain you don't get any solution in the dog's eyes.

I came back here to ask if anyone has had experience with Nature's Miracle Skunk Odor Remover?? It has great reviews that I'm seeing. Like I said, I'm not sure how much she still smells today but we could tell that we got the oils off - at least it looks that way. I'm sure there's going to be residual smell so I'm thinking of picking up some of this Nature's Miracle. I know that the pet stain cleaner stuff is great so I'm hoping this lives up to the reviews. I'll be washing hubby's clothes with it too! He laid them up on my Tahoe's hood last night before coming inside and just picking them up to throw them on the garage floor this morning made my hand stink.
