My goal for 2011 us to put on 10 pounds. it is so much easier npow to gain weight than to lose weight. When I was young I could eat like a Wild Hog andn ever gain a pound. Now, all I have to do is look at food and I gain a pound. Why get depressed, add weight, be happy! New cloths!

I too think I can live without white flour, so I am very interested in learning more about it as getting in shape in on my list of things to do too in the new year.

I had read that white flour was bad for years, if I'm remembering correctly; they take out the wheat germ, which is the embryo, of the seed. Now for years they have been saying the wheat germ contains xyz vitamins, we take out the wheat germ, and add those vitamins back, same nutrition, right? Well, some people believe that that might be wrong about this Nutrition is still somewhat of a mystery and the wheat germ may be contributing something more than xyz vitamins. White bread can taste better, it's easier to make, the flour stays fresher longer because bugs really love the wheat germ, and you have to refrigerate whole-wheat flour if you aren't using it rapidly, so that is some of the reasons white bread is so popular.

I have read some documentation lately to the effect that whole wheat reacts with insulin differently than refined wheat, this is controversial though, and I'm not sure there is that much scientific evidence to prove this. I have suffered from hypoglycemia for years, and while I'm not an emotional eater, I have to use so much will power sometimes to not give into my cravings. I just don't think that's natural. The problem also was exacerbated by the fact that I craved more refined carbohydrates. Once I gave them up, the cravings are very easy to control. So that's why I suggest a food dairy, while many of us do well on the same diet, there are great individual differences, we all know that skinny person who can eat 5000 calories a day. (I talking about you Mary!)

Weight watchers is wonderful. I joined weight watchers when I was 17 and that's how I started to lose weight. It is a fast and easy way to become acquainted with calories, fat, fiber, etc. You'll get the hang of the point system to a point where you can guesstimate the point value of something by just looking at the calories/fat/fiber ratio, which is usually extremely important when picking foods. When you start the program, you will be SO surprised how many calories and fat everything you eat throughout the day as. It is also great because it gives you a goal to work towards daily (i.e. I do not want to exceed #points today). They also have weight watchers meetings, which I only went to one because I didn't feel that I needed to, but others find the group support helpful.

i made this resolution several times all year long. lol i can't drop the 10lbs at all. the only way would be to stop eating and run constantly and break both knees in the process. oh well i'm telling myself to eat healthy for the future baby and just not gain anymore weight

I'm in... Of course, I am in every year. Sometimes it takes and sometimes not. I am hoping I will be motivated to change my eating habits starting January 2nd.

Sometimes it's easier to pledge to eat healthy x number of days a week. I don't believe in weight-loss diets per say, I think you have to find a life diet that works for you, and modify as the years go by. Weight loss diets are doomed to fail, because most don't teach you how to eat lifelong, and many restrict calories so much that they slow down your metabolism, setting you up for future failure. If you are an emotional eater, you need to fix this part before you start any rigid diet, because you can thoroughly ruin your metabolism, so that you can't even maintain a healthy weight even after the emotional problems are solved, (think Oprah).

I can pledge to eat healthy 5 days a week, and sort-of healthy 2 days.

Usually, people tend to gorge themselves thinking "okay well I'm going on a diet on such date so I'm going to have my last...pizza, ice cream etc." All this does is add an extra couple pounds that then you have to lose starting January...IMHO I would start with your next meal. That's how I lost 20lbs and I've kept it off. It's really hard ...I was raised to eat everything I want and whatever time...and I absolutely LOVE food...especially deserts...Either way what helps me is to designate one cheat day. One day where you eat your favorite meal, have your cookies, etc...of course a lot of times cravings kick in...if you love sweets DO NOT buy a tub of ice cream and think you have enough self control to not eat more...this is often a mistake...I make that mistake ALL the time...you can buy those weight watches SMART ONES deserts that I absolutely love as an example, the goal is to not buy more than two servings worth because you'll just end up eating more than you intend to...Also not all fast food is bad! If you love your fast food taco bell is a wonderful option...of course not EVERYTHING on their menu is healthy but a couple of tacos are great and can curb your cravings! I think the big mistake everyone makes when starting a diet (just like I did) is that you try to COMPLETELY change your lifestyle in one day and that is just not feasible. If you need to start with one meal a day that is healthy or two and work your way up. There are a lot of healthy yummy deserts and even though frozen dinners aren't that tasty for those that know how to cook...I like to have a couple just in case I don't have time, and they are wonderful because when you run out of time and don't feel like cooking THAT is when the cravings kick in and you are most likely to go get fast food or order a pizza...this is why it is extremely important to PLAN ahead. Plan your meals and even plan for the days you are the most likely to be stressed and reach for bad food....knowing when you are your weakest and acknowledging it will help you move forward and stay on track. Also, for those who are planning on exercising, I would strongly consider working out in the morning. Not only does it give you a great jumpstart on your day, but personally it also redirects all of my cravings because I sit there thinking "Do I really want a piece of cheescake? That's a 5 mile run to burn off the calories and I only ran 2 today and I was exhausted!" Writing down how many calories you burned during exercise, and the calories you are consuming also helps regulate what you put in your mouth. Things like juice quickly pack on the calories (for example a glass of orange juice is approximately 100 calories which is a mile run at a moderate pace) and your morning latte from starbucks is also extremely high in calories. Opt for a tall skinny vanilla latte for example, which only has 90 calories. Either way, I'm sorry for rambling, I just struggle with food every day and I understand how difficult it is to keep an exercise routine AND eat healthy. Exercising speeds up your metabolism, but it also makes you more hungry so you have to be careful that you do not eat junk because otherwise this will have no effect. Eating healthy is probably one of the MOST important components of keeping a healthy lifestyle and weightloss...oh yeah and stay away from anything with granola in it...really high in calories and sugar not at all healthy!!

Hope I've helped someone, and not put everyone to sleep!
zzzzz ~just kidding

You had some excellent tips
