YT Vendors w/private profile pages

I just realized something else..... that untill this discussion started I never realized. I have had MANY orders from "new" YT members who have no posts -- some have Malties, some have poodles, as well as other small breeds. Some via pm's some via my profile page. Of course the first order of business is to welcome these newbies to YT and to encourage them to get involved. Even if you don't have a Yorkie, we can still learn from "small dog" experiences.

Quite a few of these newbies were directed to YT via search engines when they did a search for "silk harnesses". SO..... I am rethinking the whole Registered Member thing. .

I see things from both sides now.

See I am not being ridiculous. If you are a member of YT as well as a vendor all aspects of your YT personality should be welcoming.

I'm a vendor - and having my page open to everyone is great- I recently had a yt member contact me about making a pee pad for her parrot....she visited my page. We followed up on email and such but it started on my profile. I welcome any and all business inquiries.

I never thought you to be ridiculous. I just always felt like the YT profile "thingie" was like a mini YT FB. I am not an outgoing social butterfly and I just don't have time.

For me that is one of the greatests aspects of YT the sharing of thoughts and ideas and experiences. I still believe that YT Vendors should have a personal choice about the profile page access, and you have a personal choice about who to refer members to.

btw.... I wound up changing SOME of my profile back to everyone

Google loves YT. If I type in yorkie silk harness - Google Search the first result is about how amazing your product is. I bet lots of people who are not forum members see that and would love to contact you - IF you allow them. In fact, I think you should go to that old thread and post something so that people can find you. It may be an old YT thread but it's a google result. I get lots of inquiries from people who have found me on YT and are not members here. They are now

I'm not suggesting that you take orders through your profile page, I just think it's easy for someone to reach you. Once someone has given you a message, you can then PM them and communicate that way.

People answered that question - some have had pictures stolen. Besides which, this is the wrong question. Why should they have to justify to you their personal choice to keep their page private?

What are you talking about What veiled accusations and hostility? Who are you to tell me who I should contact via PM? Of all the members that have posted including vendors you chose to quote me repeatedly and I now take your posts as veiled hostility.

I have better things to do with my time than sit here and argue with someone with their own agenda and an ax to grind with my name on it. I'm going out to finish my Christmas shopping and have a birthday dinner with friends.

Seriously, I'm confused by your post, and Jodi as a consumer was just letting vendors know how she felt about this. I spoke up as someone who included the vendor's profile pages on the Vendors list, because I use to get massive amount of inquires about how do I contact this member. I'm a little disappointed when a vendor makes the choice to close their profile page, because it took me hours and hours to edit their profile pages on that list. Now if a vendor chooses to ignore the suggestions, they can, but at least someone has told them how they feel about it.

Nancy, to answer your question: if I had a problem with something like that, I would simply PM the vendor and let them know their page was hidden, and while I liked their products, I would be more likely to buy from someone whose page isn't hidden. Or I'd post a thread saying, hey vendors, you might want to reconsider keeping your profiles closed.

What I wouldn't do is publicly complain and repeatedly imply that they are doing something wrong when after all it is their choice. Your concern seems legitimate to me because you're actually involved in helping the process work, rather than complaining because something didn't go exactly the way you wanted it to for five seconds.

It seems to me like this is an attempt to control other people's innocent choices for no reason and it chafes me.

Well I think if vendors want to keep their profiles private it is their choice but it seems like it would be disadvantegous to them because its another way someone could contact them about a sale

HUH.. I was not referring to you in any way at all. I was using my own words and I was NOT calling you ridiculous . Again my word. If I was referring to you or anyone for that matter, trust me I would say so. It was my personal choice to state my opinion also

Well, since you won't be reading it, I'll post it for everyone else:

1) Disagreeing with you on two high-traffic threads does not count as "following you around".

2) I didn't PM you because you have the unsavory habit of taking PMs public and quoting pieces of them out of context to prove that people who disagree with you are wrong, evil, liars, etc.

3) It should be abundantly obvious that I was not dictating to you who to PM. I was pointing out how incredibly tasteless it is to insinuate that a group of people must be "hiding something" with *zero* evidence other than a perceived snub. This isn't the first time you've taken a small personal matter and made accusations, again with absolutely no evidence.

I really don't understand how someone who is so frequently unkind to others manages to maintain such an incredible sense of victimization.
