| Most vegies in the US whether farm grown, hydroponic, or organic, use animal-feces based fertilizers, both when planted and in water through irrigative methods ; both are vectors for these infections. Although regulations do call for sterilization of the fertilizer before application, it does not always happen. Although, what is interesting is that Coriander, the seeds from the Cilantro plant are known for their anti-bacterial compound, Dodecenal. Which when researched and tested proved to be stronger than other anti-bacterials such as Gentamicin in fighting Salmonella infections. Kind of ironic huh? Just one of the tidbits learned along the way. Useful once in a lifetime! |
