| Facebook warning As some of you may know, about two weeks ago our front door was kicked in and our house was robbed and trashed. Thank heavens they did hurt my dogs or let them loose. We have learned a lot in two weeks. We now have an alarm system and have learned that if you have anything of value, take a picture of it and lock it in a safe or safety deposit box at the bank. My physical therapist warned me today about Facebook. He was telling me about a woman he knows that posted on Facebook that she and her husband were eating at a local restuarant. When they got home, they had been robbed. You never know who reads your posts.

| Yep, that sort of thing has been on the news lately. One couple was robbed while she and her husband were at a concert. They posted on FB so that any friends that were interested in going could join them. You never know who is your "friend" on FB, an old neighbor of hers that she hasn't really been in contact with for years read her post and robbed their home while they were out.

| Unbelievable. I remember a time when people used to do this with obituaries too. Victimize the mourning family by seeing when the funeral is and breaking in when they know everyone's gone. |

| I am sort of "against " these social sites for many reasons... not that i think people can not make friends online, but these sites encourage overexposure ! I have seen so many personal detailed information people post ... i am just always on "alert" ! Sorry for your bad experience, but thanks for posting. Blessings ! XOXO

| I'm always leery of stuff like that on Facebook. For that very reason, I never post about something that I'm about to go do, I wait until I get home and then post about what I've already done.

| I have never understood why people do that. They update their status to "Having at the beach" or "Leaving for Europe tomorrow" That just SCREAMS "come rob my house." |

| It's a great warning to everyone. I see on my FB wall all day long exactly where people are. I assume it's an app that they use. "Just checked in at Walmart", or whatever. People even post "yay, going on vacation in 3 days". I have no idea why people post detailed information like that. I'm sorry about what happened to you and am glad all is ok. EDIT:BamaFan - you beat me to it!

| Another warning - not about social sites though. how many of you use a GPS? how many have your home as a waypoint (or whatever they call them)? I heard of someone who was at a ballgame and someone broke into their vehicle and stole their GPS. They set it to go "home", as they knew the owners were at the ballgame, so they were able to go to the house and burglarize it. Never have "home" on your GPS. call it something else.

| Not many of us would have thought of that either.

Where I am going with this is the detective told us that 95% of all break ins are by someone who knows you. So, it is very possible that they could pull information from Facebook. Warn everyone you know but it is a terrible thing to go through. Please let me know if I can do anything at all for you. Sylvia, I too have a GPS with home programed. I was told when I purchased it to never leave it in the car. They recommended a carry bag so we could take it with us when we had the car parked. I am so glad I listened to them.

You might notify your local police so they can keep an eye on your home. Just a suggestion.
