Thor's Human Donating Member | Discovery: Vacation better than Work So yeah, I just got back from my first vacation in ages. I went to Vegas for a few days. It was fabulous. The heat was great, the pool was great, the food was great, the people were great, it was generally really great. And I read some great books. And it was very relaxing. So maybe it was more like, really really really great. I've been in the grind for so long that I'd sort of forgotten what I was missing. I knew I was burned out, but was kind of numb to it. Now it's really hitting me, it's not nearly as much fun being home! There's work, and bills, and chores, and stress and bedtimes. I want to be on vacation again. That is all.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I agree. I never went on vacations because I didn't want to leave my babies. Then last summer I promised DH I would go to Az with him. I was dreading it but ended up loving vacations and we have gone back 4 times since. I am retired and it still is so great to get away from all responsibilities. I could go on a trip every 2 months if I could afford it! Glad you had a great time, sounds like you were overdue.

| Vacation is better than work? I don't believe it. Glad you enjoyed Vegas. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I want a permanent (+lucrative ) vacation. I just feel like I'd be so good at it. Whenever we do go on vacay, I always get the World Re-entry blues, big time. All the stress and tediousness just hits me like a brick wall.

Yep it's so true! I travel a couple of times a year just to keep myself sane. I have a difficult and stressful job and it's the only way I can keep myself balanced. Coming back is always hard - I took a 15 day trip once and was depressed for three weeks after. So now I go for 7-10 days max. LOL I'm glad you got some R&R!

| I sure could use a vacation myself. I teach and get the summer off, but I want to go somewhere. Just couldn't afford it this year

I once took a six month leave of absence from work. Everyone says you get tired of being on vacation and start itching for work. Nope! I didn't miss work in the slightest. My thing is I HATE planning. Putting the logistics of the trip together always seems so daunting, and I always have lots of other boring work stuff to do instead. So I tentatively get a trip planned, and then I never follow through. Vegas happened because people from my company were going there for work, and some of us went for the weekend also. So we were already set for the hotel, and there were more people to spread the planning around.

Thor's Human Donating Member | Aw, sorry to hear that! I sometimes console myself with a staycation, but they really are not as fun.

| hahahaha you sound like me! aaahhh vacation! I TRY to do 2 a year. Even if they are just stay at home for a week. I refuse to open mail and answer 800# calls! Vacations are so wonderful. Sometimes I wish I'd get laid off from work for awhile. I really could use a new job desperately and the time off to do so much stuff around the house would be awesome!!! I'm glad you enjoyed yourself so much! Where did you stay in Vegas? I love it there!

| Hummm, mixed feeling here Years back i decided i wanted to be a stay at home wife....All went well for the first few weeks, I got bored FAST. Really there are only so many times you can shop, lunch dates, beach, pool, clean, yada yada before that becomes routine and looses the thrill and enjoyment. 9 years ago i landed the job I'm currently at....LOVE MY JOB and the people I work for. i can take as much time off as i want (of couse w/o pay) and love it. I'm leaving on the 8th for my annual all girls NYC trip I never want to be a stay at home wife again, I'm sure if i had kids i would think differently, but don't

Thor's Human Donating Member | We stayed at the Bellagio. It was heavenly. I split a room with another girl over the weekend, and then my company paid for the work days. Also, I duked someone for the first time! I slipped the desk attendant a $20, and he upgraded me to a room with a hot tub bathtub. I wasn't feeling well one night, and I slipped into the tub with BOILING hot water, jets blasting, a book in one hand, and a drink in the other. Oh, and there was a window right next to the tub, so I could look out at the moon. Aaaaaah. Of course, as I type this, I'm sitting with my typically terrible posture in my boring old desk chair, with no jets AT ALL. This sucks!
