I live in an old victorian. I will get pictures later. Its in a less than desirable neighborhood but the house is great and the price was a steal of a price since its in this neighborhood. It has stain glass windows, skylights, the original fireplace, jenn air stove, hot tub and theirs a koi pond in the back yard. I love it and my mortgage is cheap.

We have a 1920 farmhouse style home and we love it to pieces. It's a work in progress and my hobby. When I first saw it my initial reaction was OH NO!!! not with this kitchen and WHAT'S THAT SMELL?!? Well, that was 5 years ago and I wouldn't trade it in for a villa. Oh... and actually it's name is 'Villa Vanilla'. When we moved in I had a dream in the first night where the house talked to me, bid us a warm welcome and told me it's name is Villa Vanilla...LOL!
I renovated the whole house single handed (my dh is a scientist and if he would have helped we would have probably not yet finished the first room... ) but last year we had to go to ABQ and rented the house to a dear 'friend' of mine who paid a minimal rent and was supposed to take care of it while we were gone. To keep a long story short, I'm renovating the whole house again... which is kinda fun b/c I can change whatever I like. Since we are on a very tight budget I developed a talent that could be called "design on a nickel"...
So if you need some ideas how to do things really really cheap just ask!
I lately started to redo my kitchen which was a 1950s blah affair and now it looks like a Tuscan style one. I haven't taken pics yet but they will follow...
I love your house! I would love tips on how to do stuff cheap We are currently stripping the woodwork and I'm thinking of getting some paint to cover over some of the ugly wall colors the previous owner chose.

Same here... all the old houses around her are in 'less desireable neighborhoods' but I couldn't pass up the beauty of this house because of where it was. People are always like "Oh, you live there??" Oh well, I got 2xs the square footage of our friends who bought one of those cookie-cutter-built-in-a-week houses

Your house sounds amazing... I just love drooling over pictures. Can't wait to see them!

Here are some pictures of some stuff we've done

1. A door we stripped paint from. Still needs to be sanded...
2. The adhesive we've been slowly scraping from the floors. It is disgusting and comes up like tar.
3. The woodwork we've begun stripping... I don't understand why anyone would ever paint over this beautiful wood...
4. The beams that we want to strip but are intimidated by them. They are all over our ceiling and covered in not only paint but texture! Disgusting...

I live in a 1929 Colonial in New England. We did entire house renovations and it was a huge undertaking. We kept almost all the original features of the house - oak flooring (some with mahogany inlay), pine flooring, wide mouldings and an old claw foot tub was restored. We did add some updates and had to complete gut rooms (kitchen, bathrooms) but we did put the house back to where it was. We added additional features to go with the house too. Unfortunately my windows had to go - I practically cried in the replacement window stores. I still havent gotten over it.

Love my old house - even with its settled foundations, it's creeky noises, and its lack of central air conditioning.

Michelle, You have a lovely home!! It will take some work to get the paint stripped and all the rest...but in the end your home will be just as you imagine it to be now! The beams are just wonderful!! Take your time doing each project and I hope you will post pictures as you go!

1920 craftsman, just stripped uncountable number of layers of paint and wallpaper from our bedroom walls. getting ready to strip the untold years of old varnish off the windows. our bedroom has been in the living room for months. the other bedroom is a walk-in closet because y'all know how much closet space there is in old houses....nada long, slow process..... but do love the front porch and all the little cubbies and storage suprises that are built in, just wish some were closets..LOL

we have a 1920 farm house. I love the potential this house has, but we rent it and the landlord doesn't take very good care of the outside and there's only so much we're allowed to do with the inside. I want to buy it when I'm older and fix it up.

I simply love your house, it makes the others look sad. 1912 must have been a great year for homes.

How do you know what style the house is?
My dad bought a house built in 1943 and that is all I know. He rents it out now, but I hope to be his new tenant by the end of the year. It's small, 2 bed and 1 bath but the mortgage is less than $800 a month. Great big back yard with 2 guava trees, a plum tree, and I plan to plant a lime tree when I move in. It will be a lot of work since the last 4 tenants didn't take care of the house.
