Donating YT 11K Club Member | Dogs in Hurricane Katrina Movie Has anyone watched this documentary? I just finished watching and I cried and was overjoyed with it. It was so good and showed the reality of hurricane katrina and what happened to the pets. I recommend it to everyone to watch! YouTube - Mine - Movie Trailer

| I have a terrier mix that spent Katrina chained up on a 2nd story deck. She doesn't handle thunder, wind, heavy rain or cats at all to this day. When she was rescued she was up to her neck in water and the rescuers thought that maybe cats had tried to use her back as a safe spot going by the scratches and gouges on her. Since she came out of New Orleans we named her Nola. We dodged Katrina but Rita was rough, we were part of the rolling road block that came out of Houston (61 miles in 2 1/2 days). So many pets were put out of cars, I never want to see anything like that again The people were afraid that their pets would die because of the heat so they'd turn dogs, cats, birds even livestock loose. We bugged out with 4 vehicles and our furkids. Everyone-human & furkid- came through safely in our crew...but I've never cried so much in my life seeing all those pets wondering what was going on and why their humans left them on the side of the road A young man from Beaumont with 2 horses was beside me for several hours,he told me that he'd gotten them through Katrina and he was going to keep them safe during Rita...his mare overheated in the trailer and collapsed and died before he could get her out. When I had to move on,he was sitting on the floor of his trailer holding her head in his lap and crying. Hurricane season is coming up quickly and I hope that we all learned and remember our lessons from these storms |

| I too would like to see the whole movie. While I don't live in Louisiana Katrina did flatten my little town in Mississippi. The only reason I was glad we had stayed for Katrina was we would have left our animals. We had 8ft of water in our house so I know they would have never made it if we had left them alone. So when the waters rose we took the rat and bird to the attic with us and waited it out. Frisco our sun conure has been in my family since I was about 14 or 15 and it would have broken my heart to learn that not only was my house was destroyed but she and my rat were gone as well had we left. Our house can be and was rebuilt but not our pets. My rat I had at that time passed away about a year after the storm but I still have Frisco and now my yorkie Sakura and if we ever have something like that again both will be in the car with me along with my little sister's dog when we leave because that is something I NEVER want to have to do again. |

While I was watching the movie some of the scenes they showed the lost dogs on the street and houses wandering around and it made me cry just seeing them there lost. I wish I would have helped-if something like that ever happened today I would go over there to help get pets out but at that time I don't think it even crossed my mind-I don't think I even knew ppl left their pets behind.

| Please don't feel bad, that storm caught everyone off guard. No one was prepared- really there wasn't any way to be ready for it. The officials could only go by what they'd learned from previous hurricanes and it just wasn't enough. At least now people can bring pets to shelters with them. One thing that I thought was unforgivable was when pet owners were lied to, they were told that their pets could go with them when they evacuated. One thing that I've always wondered-if anyone can remember...we were told that Rita didn't get as much T.V. coverage because Katrina caused such massive destruction. Does anyone remember hearing much about it? Here's a little bit of trivia- old-timers had a descriptive name for hurricanes- they called them the devils daughters! |

| I found it on iTunes, you can rent it for $3.99 or buy it for $14.99. I've never rented a movie on iTunes before... I'm not sure how that works... but I think I'm gonna try it lol

| I rent them all the time... once you start it (watching the movie, not downloading it) you have to watch it in I think its 24 hours... its a good way to get a movie cheap if you will watch it all in one day and not want to see it again!
