![]() ![]() Since I grew up close to Motown I won't tell you who else I got to see for cheap $$$...Music was great during the 60's and 70's... Then when I got to be an adult I got to see some great concerts but the price tags were enough for a downpayment on a house...haha

| ![]() No, I never heard of it, but I'm not much of a movie buff. Hey, did you ever listen to Rare Earth? I believe they're the only white group that was on Motown. They did a lot of Motown covers (biggest hit was 'Get Ready). I got to see them about 10 years ago...still had most of the original members and they put on a great show. |

and yes - Rare Earth was great - Deep Purple too - man I'm going back in time I remember my mom dragging me to a Tom Jones concert - I actually like him but was pretty young at the time - now I'm just grateful I didn't witness her throwing her undies on stage - I did see alot of that at the concert ![]()

I wish I was a little older 'cause I missed out on seeing Hendrix, Janis and The Doors. I was too young at the time but I made up for lost time once I had my chance, though. I hear ya on the concert prices now. There's been a few I've missed just because I don't think anyone is worth the price some now charge. Ridiculous.

![]() Now when you talk about Hendrix, Janis (my fav) Doors etc...to much dope in those days to remember much of anything. We had a great place in Detroit called the Grande Ballroom and for a few bucks you could get in and see some great bands cheap and just smelling the air got you high. Then in the summer time we had outside concerts at a ski resort and could sit on the side of the hills..the higher up you were the highter you got from all the smoke drifting upwards...I didn't have a clue how famous some of these bands would get...it was just great music to dance around with. A Michigan group I loved was the Mc5...Up Against The Wall MFer's. Then we had some fabulous groups out of Ann Arbor..so it was a wonderful time. Grande Ballroom - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

| ![]() Cindy, my first few shows were at Municipal Auditorium in New Orleans. It was a grand hall with 2 huge chandeliers hanging from the ceiling...they were at least 20 feet across. For concerts, they were lit in black lights. Once the house lights went up after a show, it was like a weather system had moved in with all the smoke. We would hit the French Quarter after that and hang out all night....get coffee and beignets....or ride the streetcar to the end of the line to a snowball stand. Thanks for the vid, Lissette. They look like a great party band. I love those kind of shows if they're at the right venue. Here's one back at'cha (for ladies only). These guys started out as a trippy Southern rock band and morphed into...well..see for yourself ![]() I had seen them before this era and they were one of my favorites. It got to be a little much once he started strutting around like a peacock, though. They still play a few small shows and I've had the chance to meet them all. They're all really nice guys but the drummer they have now will get you into trouble if you let him ![]() |

| ![]() God I love how some of these threads go... ![]() Well Jim, I am sure glad to see the lead singer was circumsized ![]() I loved David Lee Roth so I am sure I would have loved this band but listing to this video I wonder..but I easily could get caught up in the action..haha Axle Rose tried to pickup my sister in law (at the airport) and she said "the guy certainly loved himself more than any woman in the world"..crack me up. Awwww the French Quarter...lots of craziness there. What fun you must have had.

| ![]() hahah....glad to see you have a sense of humor about it, Cindy. There's a vid on u-tube of them doing 'Halls of Karma' in the period before this. And, for some great jamming, especially by the drummer, check out 'Up'. These guys have all gotten older and I really like going to see them these days. Obviously, Jim Dandy doesn't parade around like he used to and it's just a great party show. Back in the day, the French Quarter was more of a freak zone than anything. The strip clubs and all were there but it was just a cool scene.....kinda what I imagine the San Francisco scene was in the 60's. You know, things move a little slower down here and we didn't get the 60's til about 1971. |

I never will forget the first time I went to the French Quarters (my parents had their honeymoon there) so what I expected what was not what I saw. Boy when some of the doors opened and I looked in...I went Holy Cow...(I didn't really say that but you get the idea)... Still would have been wonderful to wander in the Quarters after a concert. In Detroit you got the heck out as soon as everything was over...not the safest area. San Francisco is the late 60's was cool for a short while..I stayed with friends for a summer but lack of $$ made things start going sour..
