I would also suggest calling a repair company for advice on which brands/models are the most reliable.

Kenmore Elite Washer and Dryer...

there is a brand new set for sale on craigs list for this one

their tenants moved in and could not pay the rent so left these as collateral right in my town and the animal shelter needs a dryer so may donate my dryer to local animal shelter

While they save on water you cannot adjust the level and because of that all of my clothes come out with dog hair still all over them. Yuck, I never had that problem with my top loader. At least it clean dog hair but I have better things to do than pick dog hair off of everything.

Whirlpool Duet Sport: Yuk!

Stinky clothes: bc HE detergent is 'green' so it's made with no or little scent, and you use less.

And the hair gets knotted up and sticks to everything. I used to get mad at my cat!

Must leave washer door open to dry between loads or overnight or bad mold smell, so I'm fighting with cats contantly!. I do a bleachy white load either every other or every second load. Has a 'clean washer' cycle that I haven't used yet.

Biggest thing I miss: soaking whites in bleach water. Has a soak cycle, but
doesn't dispense bleach until wash cycle.

Sounds and feels like you live on the train tracks with jets flying overhead during spin cycle. Spins really fast, except with heavy jeans loads (when you need it most!). Can only wash 4 pair size 46-48 mens jeans, more will not get clean.

So you use less dryer time as most clothes are spun dry in the washer. I quit using liquid softener bc it ruins washers and adds to the mold problem.

I use dryer softener sheets bc they make the stuck on hair and UFT (unidentified fuzzie things) smell better. It does not make then go away. I am now a leading authority on lint brushes.

The washer is not listed as Energy Star compliant, bc the idiots who designed it screwed up. When you power it up, it defaults to hot or warm water for all cycles, so if you want cold you have to change that setting for each and every load.

The dryer has a cheapo plastic door clasp (now broken) but dryer still works if you tape the door shut!

I bought Samsung front load with steam and silver care features, along with the matching steam dryer. The nice thing about the silver care feature is it prevents the moldy musty smell that people complain about in front washers. I use this on towels and heavy stuff ocasionally to rid of the smell-works great on athletic wear as well! Yes, the clothes do take longer to wash(1 hr 15 mins) but they come out amazingly clean and in my thinking-still is quicker than having to re-wash the load again because it didn't come clean the first time. My whites have never been cleaner-especially the stinky soccer socks! The washer is huge-you can pack a ton of clothes in there(it has one of the biggest capacities available). When I was doing my research prior to picking a washer, this one was one of the highest rated. Love the dryer as well, very quick. Love the steam feature-to 'fluff' things up, or take out wrinkles.

My maytag is 7 yrs old and used everyday.. but like everything else the next one may not last very long.. the first water filter replacement for my fridge lasted a year the last one lasted 3 months.

just learned a few things.

LG makes kenmore now and inorder to work on LG you have to be a LG technician so alot of the old appliance repair guys would prefer maytag, whirlpool, etc so they can work on the machines as they have to be certified to work on LG products

Maytag was bought buy whirlpool 3 years ago and then they did not do anything until about a year ago so the newer models are built buy whirlpool now with commercial quality parts. They are suppose to be better built now like the old Maytag's were since whirlpool now owns them

Also read in consumer reports that alot of people are going back to top loads but when i go to places they say 80% buy front loand and 20% top load

still looking and trying to narrow down.

also some have plastic in the area where the water drains off the rubber and no lip so helps with the mildew issue

just curious though if they know they are too low and have to sell risers for the frontloads why do they just not make them taller ? Why do consumers have to pay 190-220 for a riser lolllll

I do like the front load, I always keep the door open or it will get smelly. I recently changed from whirlpool over to kenmore because of my dryer fire. I am very happy with the kenmore

It was a nite I will never forget. I will never do laundry or leave any appliances on at nite or if I am leaving again.
