I just got a new front loader LG washer and dryer with the pedistals.. Got them at Home Depot (got the red set) and I love them. Deb, with Dee Dee's allergies.. the steam might be a good idea. I didn't get steam becuase they said unless I dry cleaned a lotr I wouldn't use it. It is great for re-fl;uffing too .

We bought the Maytag front loader washer and dryer and have them on pedestals. I don't like them at all!!! It vibrates so bad it sounds like a helicopter is landing in my house and the washer walks across the floor everytime I use it. Another big dislike it with the water level. While they save on water you cannot adjust the level and because of that all of my clothes come out with dog hair still all over them. Yuck, I never had that problem with my top loader. At least it clean dog hair but I have better things to do than pick dog hair off of everything.

Nope, no agitator. I hate those things too... my next washer won't have one either! :)

We most likely will go back to the top loads due to all the things you posted about. Takes too long to wash and dry, towels always smell mouldy no matter how often you wash them or use the machine. Or what type of detergent or softeners you use. Sometimes we get the odd grease stain on our clothes as well.

Sometimes the water does not drain properly leaving you with soaking wet clothes and no option to just spin the load again so you have to wring them out by hand or run the whole load through another wash cycle and pray they are not still soaking wet 30-60 minutes later.

The GE dryer has a "auto-sensor" that measures when the clothes are dry and turns off the machine, sounded like an awesome feature but half the time the clothes are still damp with huge wet spots.

You can't start the dyer over again to dry longer since it shuts off right away again due to the wonderful sensor.

So then you have another great feature called the "Timed Dry" which handily also is over-ridden by the sensors and turn the machine off no matter how long the timer is set for. So no real "timed dry".

Grrrrrr....... leaving you with nice half dried and half wet clothes and sheets.

The machines should also have a fold out clothes rack built on to it which would be more useful to dry clothes then the dryer, lol.

cool as that was the one i was leaning towards and there is one with allergenic mode as well but he said the steam one which is cheaper should work for allergents

i appreciate everyone giving me all this info - ok going to read the other responses as well

this is a tough decision so thanks again everyone as once you get them you are stuck as these things are not cheap

If you will use dryer sheets this will help on the hair problem or at least it did for me :)

yeah i cannot use the dryer sheets as dd has horrible allergies so i do everything hypoallergenic and affraid to use the hypoallergenic dryer sheets - ughhh everything for dee dee girl i swear

ok here is another question

the dryer is a gas we have now and it works but there are some chips on the door so a little rust and i am sure it was bought at the same time as the washer so should i go for it and buy washer and dryer or just washer?

Thats really up to you, if you care if they match, your finances, if you can buy the matching one down the road, and if the matching one is still be available then..... Sometimes you get a deal if you buy the "pair" as well.

ok good idea i am a freak about everything matching lolll so will probably go that way -dh wants to get a washer with agitator for $350 or so and i am looking at the cadillac washer and dryers lollll

Ha ha, sound like me and my hubby. :) My hubby always wants the least expensive until we go to buy something and then he wants ALL the features.:rolleyes:

My best advice would be to check the ratings on the specific model you are looking at. It depends on who manufacturers the one you are looking at. Several different manufacturers produce machines for the Kennmore (Sears) line -- it isn't a "brand name" anymore that you can go by, you have to know who actually makes the machine.

I would also suggest calling a repair company for advice on which brands/models are the most reliable.
