So Frustrated.

I just saw an Rheumatologist a month ago for the pain in my right knee. He had blood work done and a scan done on my vertebra. The pain is caused by osteoarthritis and he gave me a prescription for pain meds. I tore it up. I don't take medication.
I went to see a friend of mine who has a phd in nutrition about my problem. She said never eat "nightshade" vegetables, which are peppers, potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, curry, chili & paprika, and to take Omega three times a day. She said these "nightshade" vegetables block the bodies ability to stop pain.

My 24 year old dtr has the same thing. Out of the blue her knee will fill with fluid and be so stiff and painful. She has gone several times to the orhtopedist and they did an MRI, drained it 3 different times and cortisone shots, therapy. Last time it happened they wouldn't drain it because he wanted her to go to a rheumatologist who she couldn't get into for 4 weeks. After thousands of dollars in blood work nothing really showed up. Told her if it only happens a few times a year she should just get the cortisone shot. That was less than 3 months ago and last week she woke up an it was filling with fluid and stiffening up. She is so frustrated too as no on can find out what is causing it. I hope you can get an answer and some relief.

I agree with your decision to see another orthopedist. One who deals with Sports Medicine might have more specific knowledge of the knee.

I was married to an orthopaedic surgeon for 14 years and he always called patients back, even if it was from home at 9 o'clock at night!

The sad thing is..he IS a sports medicine specialist....he works with a very popular professional soccer team here in Mass. One of the reasons i went to him in the first place

Sounds like your daughter and I have the exact same symptoms..only mine hasnt gone away...probably cause my Ortho doesnt want to drain it or give me a Cortisone shot for it...DONT ASK ME WHY! I cant figure it out myself.

Anyways..the recent update is he has referred me to a Rheumatologist because my blood labs came back kinda high. Hopefully I'll get some relief soon!

I hope your feeling better really soon, you must be so frustrated I personally was bounced from doctor to doctor for 12 months then refferred to a rhumotologist. He changed my life! He searched for the root and found it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and saying lot's of prayers for you to get well. The unknown with the pain can really push you over the edge. Keep us posted
