I am a PROUD Shih-Tzu dog mama... Rocky is awesome, he runs plays and acts like any other 2 year old dog. He even starts things with his little brother Nicky. They are a hoot to watch once they get to playing. I wouldn't judge the entire breed just because of a few shih tzu's? Maybe they were old and warn out? like any older dog would behave? I think Rocky is the most polite well manored dog I have seen in ages, he actually waits for you to invite him into your lap instead of just leaping up into your lap. Like any other dog out there they all have their own personalities, maybe the ones that you incounterd had mild ones? Who knows. I just love my baby to death and wouldn't trade him for anything in the world, and nothing anyone could say would change my mind, we all have our likes and dislikes and I really do respect your not liking the breed. Thank you for posting this. Quote:

I cannot stand pitbulls; every one I've ever met has had that weird something in their eyes that just makes you KNOW you could never really trust them. |
EWE...lol I had friends once that their dogs were aloud to use the house as there bathroom, and they rarely cleaned it up too, it was WAY PAST disgusting. That is just wrong VERY wrong not healthy for the people or animals. YUCK Quote:

it's funny - well, not really - but, there's this horrid lady at our park. She screeched at me one day for eating M&Ms. I was just finishing up the bag, not doling them out to dogs!! Then, 2 seconds later, said women begins smoking, then proceeds to toss the butt on the ground! My God - what a loving hypocrite!! She's the type to cross the entire park to tell someone, "your dog just s--t on the ground. Here's a baggie". And, hands them a bag. She's a lunatic for sure, but I always get a kick out of her, umm, antics :D |
aww I love Shihs! The family that I babysit for just got a puppy a few weeks ago. She's already 100% house broken (she's 12 weeks old), knows commands (sit, stay, come), and is a little fluff of energy. :p She may be an exception. I don't know many Shihs. But I looove her! I can't think of a single dog I don't like, actually. I'm wracking my brain and I've got nothing. I'm SUCH an animal person - anything with 4 legs is loved by me! :p |

I like most dogs, Not to fond of the bigger dogs, I think they are too hard to manage, to agressive, but I guess every bread and dog has that ability to become to agressive. I just think little dogs are easier to manage and handle. We have had all kinds of pets the breeds we have had were... German Shorthair- she was an exelend dog, great with kids. She was my dads, we had her when I was little. Great Dane- she was an awesome dog too, just WAY to big, my mom refered to her as "The mini horse in dogs clothing" lol. Miniture Schnauzer- He was a great dog, a little snippy and bitie at times. The dogs that I purchased myself and are my babies... Shih-Tzu- My Rockers Yorkshire- My Nicky The breeds that scare me are... Shepards Pitbulls Rotwilers Everyone that I came in contact with were nasty and chased after me when all I was doing was walking past there car or house on a sidewalk. I am sure all dogs do that, but the three I meantioned seem to have done in in a killer kind of mode, not a get away from my property stranger mode. I am sure there are some sweet Shepards, pitbulls and rotwilers out there. here are some picts of my boys... http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL10.../380828167.jpg http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL10.../380828135.jpg http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL10.../380828132.jpg http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL10.../380828129.jpg Gotta love the head tilt!! http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL10.../380828115.jpg |
Chihuahuas, I don't care for them. They look kinda weird. I would never kick one or be mean but I just wouldn't have one running around in my house. My old roomie had a chi-dachshund mix girl and boy was she a brat! She was mean to Kaji and overall a noisy little bitch. She was overall aggressive even when she wanted to love on you. I don't blame the breed though, my old roommie liked her antics and pretty much taught her it was ok to pick fights with strange dogs and steal Kaji's things. She had her sweet moments but still, I wasn't to crazy about her. Maybe Paris Hilton ruined it for me, who knows. |

I don't really like Jack Russel's either, everyone I have met are way to hyper and loud. |

:thumbup: I can't stand that word either, Thank you for bringing it up |
No offense to anyone...(or any little s**tzus out there).....but I don't care for them either. My friend had one and it was such a little meanie~ Biting and snapping.....and every other one that I've ever been around is the same way. My groomer says she dreads them and that they have the worst temperment. She has been bitten twice this year by two different ones. I also don't care for Pit Bulls. I just don't trust them and am basically afraid of them. I've heard to many horror stories on the news about them attacking children and even their own owners. |
I adore big dogs! My first dogs were two black labs, Magic and Warlock. They were intelligent beyond comprehension (had NEVER been trained). I really want a pure white German Shepherd, but the condo-cops would be all over this  I like Huskies, too. This is what endeared me to Yorkies (in part). Yorkies are like having a big dog, but in a little package :) Maybe since I'm used to larger breeds is why the quirks of the smaller ones are a bit annoying to me (not Yorkies, of course :luv:). But, nah, like I said, I don't hate any breed. Just like some less than others is a nicer way of phrasing it, I suppose. |
Btw....I am PMing w/ "Miss Behavin" - who sent me a lovely PM -- and I hope she doesn't mind me mentioning this...but English is *not* her 1st language, so that probably explains the use of a word in English without realizing their colloquial use. I just had to mention that :). |

I not sure if i dislike pitbulls or if Im just afraid and not very educated in them. I have learned a lot more since they have been in the news so much and I do agree that "bad" dogs are the result of bad owners. You see some that just seems so sweet and lovable, in the next instant you see one attack something or someone and just dont know what to think. |
I hate Chow Chow's. One came into my yard and picked up my little poodle mix and took off with him in his mouth. He survived that time but wasn't so lucky the next, neither was the Chow Chow. Can't say I really hate any other breed. There are those I don't care for. I had a shih Tzu for 14 years, I loved him to death but his name was Rambo and he lived up to it. He would just as soon bite you as not if he didn't want to do something. I wouldn't trust them with small children. I love smushie face dogs I have one a boxer, Love mini-schnauzers, Collies, shetland sheepdogs, border collies and last but definitely not least yorkies. As far as aggressiveness I think pound for pound the smaller breeds win hands down. Now, this is totally my opinion and you know what they say about opinions.:D |

the only thing i can thing of is maybe some ppl don't like how shih tzus look. personally, i just don't like the spelling of their name. i always get it wrong. LOL. i don't have a breed of dog that i don't like. i just don't like dogs that are mean and unsocialized. it doesn't matter what breed to me. |
How about Peks? Never been a big fan...The eyes, the nose (or lack there of) and the coat....No Thanks! |

Its not that I hate any particular breed of dog , I was just never a dog person in general because I'm afraid of most of them ! My first memory of a dog was our chihuahua biting me on Christmas morning ( I was about three) and then there were two German Shepards that use to chase me relentlessly whenever I was walking around our neighborhood , and my brother had five dobermans that were trained killers ( atleast thats how I saw them ;)) I was convinced they would eat me in my sleep  So I do dislike any breed of big dog , like Pitts and Rottweilers , but its because I'm afraid of what they can do to me not because of what they look like. Actually I love the look of Bulldogs , I don't know why but they look really cute to me :p (aside from the slobber) If I had to dislike any smaller dog I guess it would be Pekingese because my gran had some mean ones. |
I dont dislike any dog breeds either.. I do however dislike the owners when they have an out of control dog.. :).. I have owned or known many breeds and mixes and didnt have a problem with any of them..I had a shihtzu and she was fanatastic and one of the smartest dogs I owned, a pain in the butt nevertheless to groom but she was a great dog. I have owned big giant rotties right down to tiny 3 pound poodles and all were great well behaved dogs. oh and as far as the snoring goes, its just not flat face, bugged eyed dogs.. my little poodle snores as almost as loud as my 250 pound husband and so does my beagle..:) |
I would feel bad saying that I don't like a particular breed of dog .... BUT :) my Aunt and Uncle had a Boston Terrier that was repulsive IMO. He scared me to death for one thing as he was very, very aggressive. Then he would slobber all over me and I just couldn't get him to move away. I would leave their house soaked to the skin from his slobbering. I also think it was the way he was raised and, believe it or not, he was the only Boston I've ever met up close and personal. |
It is not so much that I hate the breed, but I am terribly scared of pit bulls. There has been too many incidents with them around here. I love the squished face look which is one reason I got the boston terrier. My mom and dad have a shih tzu which is highly intelligent. It knows how to open the gate herself when she wants out. They say thier inteligence is that of a two year old human child. I love to have a bulldog but the price is outrageous around here about 1500. I chose the boston over a pug due to shedding. |

Shihtzu's are actually pretty far down as far as their intelligence goes (according to tests, of course, so who knows!). I think they're like number 71 or something (Yorkies are #27). So I'm surprised to see all these smart shihtzu stories, hehe. Oh, I'm also not too big on Bassett Hounds for some reason -- just lookswise though. I know nothing about their personalities. |
