| I've only seen bits and pieces. It looks like a really good show. It's funny how people get attached to possessions and the reasons for the attachment. I can kinda relate to it as I grew up in a large family and didn't have much since we on the poor side. I wore hand me downs and to get a new blouse or pair of jeans was a rare treat! I watch all those home improvement type shows about organizing and getting rid of excess stuff. Hubby says that I am close to a hoarder and I am really starting to feel that way...I just have too many hobbies! I have been trying to downsize and get rid of stuff!

| I really feel sad for those ppl. The objects that they surround themselves with is their emotion manifested into objects. It's a serious ailment. Just think years ago mental illnesses weren't taken serious, and I'm glad I live in an age that they are.

| Yes, I watch it and OMG. How people live like that is beyond me, I just could never. As I watch though I see these are good people who just have a bad addiction . Most of the houses are really bad, that one lady had her kids removed She was such a sweet lady, she just needed some help. I can see how the state would remove the kids and she even understood, they are doing their job is all. Just normal everyday people who you would never guess has these problems till you entered their house. I hope and pray this show really helps them, cause IMO they also need therapy. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I saw it once and was horrified. It has to be a severe mental illness not just a case of not wanting to get rid of stuff because that show I saw was beyond belief that people actually live like that. The one I saw was a mom who was actually angry at her own kids for trying to help her and was just plain mean ! The kids had to hire professional cleaning crews with huge trucks to haul out all the stuff. It was truly sickening - they found dead cats under all the mess. I doubt I'll ever watch it again. |

| I watch it and find myself disgusted all the time. I personally know someone who is like this, a few years back she was pending eviction from her apartment because she lived in filth, she had a daughter who at the time was 15, we rounded up a bunch of people and we were all going there to help her get the house clean so the fire department could do the inspection. There were 6 of us all raring to go, when we got in her house there was litteraly just a path way through the house, I kept thinking to myself OMG how are we going to do this!! We all had big trash bags in this mountain of " stuff" , it was useless stuff, she had infant seats, ( no baby) , 10 electric fry pans, bags of expired food, clothes that were not only outdated but would fit no one in her family .I was sooooooooo sick to my stomach that he poor daughter lived like this and knew nothing different!! It was just like the show reveals, she couldnt part with any of it, she went into panic mode as soon as we touched things... every little thing we went to put in the bag she found a reason to save it , or why she couldnt part with it, It made my skin crawl... She is known to pick through dumpsters etc , its crazy because half the sh*t she had in there was broken, expired , no use for but she NEEDED it all incase this or that!! Its sad we all ended up leaving after she flipped her lid and started yelling that she needed everything and for us to get out!! Her daughter ended up having to go live with her uncle, I understand it is an addiction but how could you let the state take your child away so you can have stuff and live like a filthy pig!

I know it doesn't make sense to anyone not afflicted with addiction, but after years of dealing with family and addiction I'm all to aware. What you experienced with your hoarder is common. My Mom was somewhat like a hoarder, though never even close to those people on the show. But, she was very stubborn and emotional when we would try to clear out a few things, after she got elderly and we had to move her.

| I watch every episode of Hoarders to try to understand my mother's hoarding. Thankfully she's not as bad as those I've seen on the show, but she definitely values junk and there are paths to walk around her apartment. Whenever I try to talk to her about it she gets very annoyed because she sees nothing wrong with the way she lives. She would like to move and be closer to family but that means packing and having people in the building see all the crap she has accumulated. Sometimes I worry that I will turn into a pack rat/hoarder since it's not only my mother but some of my aunts too. Watching them over the years I know it is definitely a mental disorder/addition. |

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | Hoarding is so sad. I'm no where NEAR like those people (I'm a very neat & organized person) but I have this thing about keeping papers. Things I've written, school papers, just generally pointless things. I have probably 3 or 4 binders and file folders filled with these old papers. A few months ago I did a "clean out" and forced myself to throw a lot of the papers away - it was physically painful. I'm not SO so bad anymore. I don't really take them home and put them somewhere anymore, I just find it so hard to get rid of the ones I currently have. I'm glad mental illnesses are recognized as actual conditions now. I see how hard it is being so mild as it is for me...I couldn't even IMAGINE having a severe addiction like that.
