| She's getting so big!!! Well it's been 6 months since we've had Cherish. Her birthday is Monday and we are taking her to Chuck E Cheese this weekend. I can't help it but I'm feeling very emotional when it comes to my sister. I know she has no one to blame but herself for the situation she's in. But I can't begin to know what's been going on in her mind. I know she misses her daughter ever so badly. And hope she realizes that she is in a good home where she is being well cared, loved and spoiled. If it were some stranger I would feel so differently about it all,,, but being someone I love and care for is very hard! Cherish has been a blast to have around. It's so cool having a little one in the house. A handfull to say the least and we are still having a bit of a hard time with the potty thing. She has her good days but still has not got it down yet. I realize that she has been through quite a bit and don't want to push her too hard. She will do it when she is ready. She has grown so much in the times she's been here. She is going to be 3 and no longer looks like a baby. She has developed so much since she's been here. I think being around the kids helped out alot. She was an only child and had to learn to not thow fits whe she didn't get what she wanted, share, and not be a little bully when it came to other kids. She will test us from time to time but for the most part she is a good girl. We were at my moms last weekend and my mom was impressed with the way Cherish had adapted and grown. As for my sister please pray that she does her time and comes out a changed person who will be a good mommy and will stay clear of her old ways and habits.

| Cherish is a beautiful little girl. She's so lucky to have so many people who care about her so much. Not every child in her situation is as lucky as she is for having you & your husband (and Gus, too!)

| Thank you all so much!!! I've been feeling a little down. Ok I have shared just bits of my sisters situation here and there. To make a very very very long story short,,,,, she got herself into trouble after a 12 year battle of drug attiction. She had been clean for almost 5 years and found her self in a bad marrage, pregnant and back out hanging around her old friends. She started before getting pregnant but stood clean during pregnantcy,,,,, so she says. When Cherish was 3 moths old she started using again. Took off and that's when we got Cherish the first time. She came back home after 2 weeks and tried to stay clean. She had her families support but as time when by I guess it wasnt enough,,, she left my mothers house to go live with some friends. We seen her less and less... till one day i got a the call. She had been picked up for possession, they let her off but was picked up again. She again got lucky and was let go as long as she went to her drug classes. Well maybe letting her off is not what she needed because she was picked up again for the last time 2 weeks later. This time there was much more to it,,,, I will say she was in the wrong place at teh wrong time. And she knew, but didn't seem to care. So I was able to pick Cherish up and thanks to s.s. they gave me temp. custody. Now here is where the mess really gets bad,,, (as if that wasnt enough) There is a few different programs that she can go to while doing her time. One of them is the Mother infant program. But It is up to me to let her go. I feel torn apart with this. I really feel deep in my heart that this little girl belongs here till her mother gets out. I don't think she should go to a place where she knows on one and be wanked out the only stable home that she's ever known. I feel that I have betraled my sister for the fact she is my sister,,,,, I try and look at it as if she were not my sister, and that helps a little. I am not by all means trying to keep her daughter away from her. I look foward to her getting out so she can come home and start over a clean new life with her daughter. I really would like you input on this matter. Am I in the wrong by not letting Cherish go?

| What a pretty little thing... I have a brother that's put my family through the wringer time and time again, so I can understand what your family is going through. You can't help but worry about the kids. You never know what they are being exposed to when the parents aren't stable. and you hate for them to grow up thinking that all the conflict is a normal way of life... Thankfully she has you, and I understand your wanting to protect her as much as you possibly can. Follow your heart, Monica, and may God bless you!

| you are not wrong by not letting her go. i for sure wouldnt let her go. she needs you right now. she needs a stable family..that poor child. i feel so bad for her...shes just adorable.. let your sister take care of her own business first.. your sister has to love herself before she can love someone else. its best for the child to be with you...i think.

| Thank you all for your support and kind words. Today we went to celerbrate Cherish's birthday at Chucky E Cheese and she had a ball. But again I felt so bad. When it came time to open her gifts,,, she was so happy! I get so upset with my sister for doing what she did and is missing out on so much of her daughters young life. And on the other hand I feel sorry for her for missing her daughters birthday. The look on a childs face when opening gifts is just priceless!!! Both my mom and I felt like crying. I am ok with my decision and truly feel it's whats best for Cherish but,,,,, days like this make me feel so bad for my sister.

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Girl...ONE DAY your sister will realize how much you are doing for her AND Cherish - When someone is in the middle of addiction - they don't see clearly and they DO need help but give her time - she'll love you one day for what you've done here - She's lucky you are in the postition to keep her daughter - too many babies are lost to the system and Cherish looks like she's in the BEST PLACE with you...good luck - what a big heart you have....Your sister is a VERY LUCKY woman |

| What a beautiful picture you posted. I couldn't help but stare into the eyes of Cherish and notice the awww of wonder every child carries in their hearts. She is so precious. Keep your chin up and try not to feel down too much. You are indeed being blessed in so many ways now.

| as a mommy, i believe it is better for you to show that beautiful girl what a true home is. yes, your sister is her mother, but she is not the one who is going to help show her values and self worth. it is awesome of you to take care of her (and nurture her also) and make sure that she can be secure. i dont' think it is selfish, i think it is insightful...she looks so young. personality is still developing. you are doing the right thing. glad chuckee cheese was great. my son will be 6 on halloween and i avoid that place like the plague! |
