It seems alot of the desirable mixes go for 400 to 500 around here.

Yorkie and Yorkie-Poo are all the rage around here. Yorkie-Poos cost just as much as pure-bred yorkies.Alot of people pay up to $600 here for yorkie-poos. I love the yorkie breed, but I particulary wanted a yorkie-poo because my allergies are crazy, and they are my personal preference over yorkies. However I did not and would not pay any crazy amount of money for them. I got Zoey for $100,they wanted more for her but I wasnt doing it,and then Bella for free, because of what the vet did to Zoey ( thats in another thread written by me if you dont know what happened).
I never even heard of them being a designer breed until I found this forum.
We didnt have any yorkie mixes in our shelters close by or I would have went there, because I would love to adopt a few dogs, but right now our yard isnt fenced in so I dont want anymore animals until then.

I have nothing at all against any mixed breed dogs, in fact i totally understand mixing a poodle with a toy dog to breed out shedding as that's what most people are doing it for, and i think yorkie poos are super cute...but i'm curious...obviously yorkies don't shed, so why do they breed them to a poodle?? is it for the curly coat or the coloring that you get...is it temperament...i'm just curious, because it's not as easy to explain as the other shedding breeds bred to a poodle are.

thanks!!

My Yorkie sheds. My Lhasa Poo didn't.

are you sure it was truly shedding and not just loosing hair...yorkies don't have an undercoat which means they can't dander or shed. their hair is like a humans which as most women know does fall out, but it doesn't all come out at once like a shedding dog does.

I think that perhaps breeding the two may give people with allergies more options such as a different look? I didn't have a choice really, I adopted Max so I can't answer why one would choose one breed over the other.

I see what you are saying, it just seems like shedding to me because we NEVER found hair from our Lhasa Poo just the big cat. We do find dog hair now that we have a Yorkie so maybe I was calling some loose hair on the floor shedding.

For me I do not think that my Yorkies are any better then someone's mixed breed. What I do not agree with is the purposeful breeding for mixes. My feelings are that there are MANY mixed breeds that can easily be adopted through shelters and rescues. I feel that some of the reason so many "designer dogs" are ending up in shelters or rescue is because people are buying them thinking that for an example that all Morkies will grow up looking alike, so what happens is that someone sees a little mix and falls in love and then in turn buys the same mix and is disappointed because it looks nothing like what they orginally saw. In my day (I'm not too old 42) these so called designer dogs were simply refered to as mutts. Now, with all that said I will let you know that I'm a the lucky person owned by a Morkie, designer dog or as I prefer to call her mixed up pup. She is very regal and very smart and I get many compliments on her appearance. She is stunning. However, when someone asks I'm always quick to tell them that she is not the norm. I did not buy her from a breeder, I got her second hand out of the newspaper. Hence my point of how these mixes are accessible without paying the high crazy prices the breeders are trying to get for them. This is my Tia.

You know I feel like I need to say something here...I have two AKC reg...champion bloodlines...etc. dogs one is a GSD and the other my little Tristan you see to the left...I paid dear for them and love them just the same as I did any of my dogs growing up and believe me...we had some beautiful pure breeds and some very unique ones shall I say. I did my home work and research for over a year each for both of these trying to find the best breeder and the best dog available within driving distance cause I don't agree with airline shipping!!! I knew the personality I wanted and needed as well as the temperament and so on only to finally succeed and then what do I get in return from most people is nothing but attitude cause I "paid" for a "Dog" instead of rescuing one from the pound. I am almost 35 yrs old and I have had some horror stories that would grey your hair happen with mix breed dogs snapping into this totally different dog. I don't want to rant but If I get this kind of attitude with "paying" for purebreds, I can't even imagine the attitude that "paying" for mixed breeds should get!! I love all animals and If there was a way of knowing what to expect out of these new "designer" breeds as far as temperament goes then maybe the cost could be justified but as far as looks goes I have never seen a puppy of any breed that wasn't just adorable! I also have noticed that the vast differences in for instances the size of ears on yorkies that are all "AKC" registered and people still pay the price without even knowing what the "breed standard" is. I guess you are darned if you do and darned if you don't! You can't win, I guess the ONLY thing that matters is LOVE! If you love them and don't contribute to the over all massive problems of abuse, neglect, and abandonment then that is the best anyone can hope for!

Zoey is, at best from what the vet and others have said, a yorkie brussels mix. Agree with calling them mix, not designer hybrid etc. Love they way they shadow me around the house.
