| What kind of bird is this??? Can anybody help me identify this bird? It has been hanging around my house for a few days. It sits on my roof. It is really an odd looking bird. It has big orange feet, an area of green iridescence on its chest, it appears to be banded with a white band. It's head is kind of mottled black and white. It resembles a pigeon but it is much larger than one. I haven't had any luck with identifying it so I am turning to you all. I am thinking it is a juvenile of some sort. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

| It definitely looks like a pigeon. I do not believe it is of the hawk or falcon species as the beak and wings are different. Sorry I could not be of more help. |

| It looks like a pigeon....If he's been hanging around on your roof for days my guess would be that apparently he has a message for you, so you need to go out there and get it so he can get to his other messages!!....

| I hope it's okay. Carrier pigeons return home to roost. If it's been at your house for several days, I would wonder if something is wrong.

| Mystery solved! Well, my husband knew of a gentleman from our area that raises pigeons. He thought homing but as it turns out he raises Racing Pigeons. We took some pictures over to him and that is what my visitor is. He said it is a young one most likely between 8-12 weeks old. He said it most likely should not have been in a race because he is either sick or injured. He said it looks like a hawk might have gotten a hold of him. I don't think he is to hurt because yesterday he was walking on the rail of our pool for a while-obviously looking for a drink but our water level is too low for him to reach. He said to put out some hard corn and a dish of water and the bird would find it. I don't remember if I mentioned that the first time I saw this bird he was flying right at me and scared me to death! This guy said he was doing that because he is hungry. It was exciting to hear him talk about this and to learn what kind of bird it actually is. He also said that it would most likely leave in a few days and go home unless it fell in love with me. :P

| Maybe you could try to catch him and look up his band.

| We have thought about that. The person that we talked to today said that we could locate the owner online if we had the number. The problem is, he is currently on the peak of our very steep roof. We keep checking on his wearabouts. If it is possible, we will do that. He also appears to be molting and I know that is a stressful time for the bird.

| How neat! A racing pigeon on your roof. I hope he/she doesn't leave lots of "presents" up there. It would be totally cool if you could locate the owner. Please keep us posted. |

| Do you have a pair of binoculars? Maybe that would be enough to let you read the # on his band.

| Yes, we have tried binoculars-I have also zoomed as far as I could with my camera. He is still here! He leaves but always comes back! I hope he is eating and drinking while he is out and about because I haven't seen him touch what we have been leaving out.

| We did. My husband threw some up yesterday and flew off. We thought he was gone for good. He flew until we couldn't see him anymore. He came back though.
